This place is SUPER overpriced and the quality of the food is mediocre at best. I try not to leave reviews like this but I must be honest. I am very bothered by my experience here.
I was so disappointed that I did not take a picture of the food. Nothing was even worth a photo. I did take a picture of my receipt. I’ll share that.
I ordered fried popcorn shrimp, fried scallops, fried rice, fried catfish, black eyed peas, macaroni and cheese and cornbread.
I also order three macadamia nut cookies that were horrible.
The best part of the meal was the half and half iced tea lemonade mix.
The person filling the order forgot my cornbread ($1.50 per slice might I add). Then they acted as if I was lying when I asked about it. I just spent $70 and I’m going to lie about a piece of cornbread?!
Lunch for two people was $70! This is absolutely ridiculous. This price for carryout. I could have put $50 more with it and had a fine dining experience. I could have sat down and had an entire experience.
I guess the biggest problem that I have with these establishments like this is that they exploit black communities. Most of the people who were in the establishment did not appear to be wealthy or well off. A little soul food treat should be affordable and NOT cost an arm and a leg. This is ridiculous. This is just greedy.
I am very disappointed. I am appalled that I even stopped here. My first choice was definitely the Carolina Kitchen but I couldn’t find a parking space and they were ticketing every illegally parked vehicle. The quality at the Carolina Kitchen is wayyyyyy better than this place.
I’m just blown away with this place.
They do have a bar. Maybe people get a buzz and then you don’t care about the quality of your...
Read moreThe city recently built a community area with tables outside of this establishment. This in no way belongs to this establishment. The owner has taken upon himself to continually harass his regulars about the space. If you have ever visited this location, then you are aware that the clientele is 50 years of age and over manly, responsible adults who gather in kinship. The owner is not about the community or his patrons which are mainly from the community and have supported him over the years. Serving soul food to a mainly African American clientele while calling the police on them is unacceptable. This isn't a business worthy of receiving our dollars.
Maryland Law States the following: On March 19, 2020, in response to the spread of Covid-19 in the State and citing the protection of public health by furthering the goals of social distancing and promotion of compliance with isolation protocols, Maryland Governor Hogan issued an executive order expanding alcoholic beverage delivery and carryout services. The order allowed licensed establishments to deliver or sell alcoholic beverages for off-premises consumption despite any restrictions inherent in their licenses. The order remains effective until after the termination of the state of emergency and rescission of the proclamation of a catastrophic health emergency.
This area is not owned by this establishment and is considered off premise. He has no right to police a common area that can be used for socializing, playing cards, painting, gathering or playing reasonable music.
Shame on him for calling the police on his patrons who for years have...
Read moreThe food here is always great. The service, not so much. I always order online before I come because this place is pretty popular, so I don't really want to wait around forever. This time, I waited in my car until the food tracker told me my food was ready to be picked up. Came in, and the girl behind the counter was messing around with the POS station and looked up like she'd rather be anywhere else. No greeting or anything. I told her I was here to pick up an order and gave her my name. She didn't say anything else, just kept playing around with the POS system (no one was putting in an order - what was she doing?) Another person came up and asked what I needed. I told her again that I was here to pick up an order and, to her credit, she actually went looking for it. Although the take told me it was ready, she says I need to wait another 5 minutes. Why would the tracker say it's ready when it's not? Why do the cashiers act like they want to be anywhere but here? I try to keep my mindset in my neighborhood, especially in places like this where the food is actually really good, but I'm not going to keep spending my money where people treat us like crap. SMFH. The THIRD person I asked for my food, 15 minutes after the tracker told me it was ready, was more helpful, but they'd already...
