A relatively new comer to the area in the past few years, Ryujin Sushi has the makings of a strong Japanese cuisine with an emphasis on sushi in the area. Unique to this location is the fact that they offer O M A K A Z E style where you place your meal at the discretion of the Sushi Chef (this can leave you for the truly un-initiated with "Oh- My - Goshee" what did i eat / order $$$). Our visits have never included this however from what we have seen / heard it is well received. In addition to the sushi, they offer Ramen as well as Teriyaki offerings. It's clean, modern, and pleasing to the senses!
SALAD: This side dish to the salmon set is a field green salad topped with a cucumber slice, carrot slices and a citrus yuzu dressing.
SUSHI: Our meal set included the HANKY PANKY as well as the Salmon Set which we asked to be modified to include more Nigiri Salmon and some Ikura on the side(as that's what the lil gurl eats and nothing else). All the pieces were D E V O U R E D. SALMON SET: The quality of the fish was fresh and clean. We were given 2 Toro Salmon for our set as we modified it to all Nigiri pieces instead of the 5 Sashimi pieces, and 4 Salmon Nigiri. As such our Salmon set had 2 Toro Salmon Nigiri, and 6 Salmon Nigiri as well as the crunchy spicy salmon roll. Delightful to the palate and the crunchy roll had a pleasant crisp texture added to the roll. IKURA: the Roe (like the salmon) was fresh and well offered. It came standard fare, however doesnt seem to be offered in many other sets HANKY PANKY: Crunch spicy tuna avocado inside, seared bluefin tuna, Japanese mayo, yuzu miso. This was a specialty roll that amalgamated with flavors, textures, and tastes that make you want to savor and eat slowly to catch every flavor in every bite to maximize your mouthful. From the crunch of the tuna and its sear, to the citrus nuances, and creamy mayo, you'll want to savor each bite to its fullest. You can dunk it in soy-sauce and wasabi, but it'll only mask the flavors ur trying to bring out, so be sure to have a slice of ginger to cleanse your palate before each piece.
RAMEN: The Miso ramen is a bowl topped with with slighly seared pork slices bamboo shoots, rice cake, bean sprouts, thin sliced Kikurage, & egg ( with a melt in your mouth yolk) topped on a ramen noodle in with it's broth. Our boy was craving the broth and it satisfied the crave to the liking of the boy. Slurping and kid modified chopstick help to make this feat possible.
Over all an enjoyable experience! Wait staff are attentive and helpful and they make an experience of your meal. Perhaps not a every day meal, but a pleasant every once in a while treat for special occasions and gatherings. Is it like getting it fresh from Tsukiji Outdoor Market, not quite, but for Bridgewater, it's a fine option! It's clean, modern, and pleasing...
Read moreWent here for the omakase for an anniversary with my girlfriend. The staff, food, service, and area of the omakase were all very nice. If I had to deduce points related to the environment of the experience I would say it was just very noisy. The omakase is in a different area from the main seating, however, the main seating area was very busy and quite densely populated meaning sound couldn't help but drown out the voice of the omakase chef. I would say it may have just been the day and time I went (8pm on a Friday), but the omakase is only over held on friday and Saturday (to my knowledge) meaning it does not seem possible to avoid the crowd.
The experience is also somewhat colored by the other people doing it with you. In our group half of the people were invested in watching the food preperation and being attentive, while the other half was just chatting amongst themselves about unrelated items.
Discussing the food itself, everything was great, including the plating and presentation. I would say a large pro and very slight con of the experience was the diversity of "fancy ingredients" used in the dishes. These fancy ingredients include frois gras, gold leaf, caviar, wagyu, etc. The pro here is obviously being able to taste all of these nice things, both on their own and within the context of the dishes, but a minor con is the inclusion of all of these items seems "fancy for the sake of fancy". Inorganic in other words. Moving back to some pros, of course all of the seafood was incredibly fresh. Every fish they served was likely the best I ever had, however, it was especially noticeable for the squid and red snapper. These two items in the omakase are essentially unrecognizable from their average sushi restaurant counterparts. I also think the order of the dishes they served was well done. The meal started and ended with lighter plates, was interspersed with heavier ones, but never pushed too hard in a single direction. I think the one most direct criticism related to the food I would have was the lack of texture diversity. Sushi and raw fish in general are of course soft in the mouth, but it would have been nice if they included more to break up that softness. Occasionally there would be a fruit garnish or crunchy garnish, but for the most part everything was homogenous in the mouth. Also, if you attend this and either have an allergy or aversion to a particular ingredient, the chef is able to accommodate this. Overall...
Read moreWe were recommended this fairly new BYOB sushi restaurant and am glad we went. I made reservations on a Saturday night and was seated a few minutes after reservation time, no big deal. We opted to order a few appetizers, nigiri, and rolls.
Sashimi Pizza ($15): You have the option tuna, salmon, or yellowtail, we opted for the tuna. The "pizza" is on an Indian flatbread. It provided a nice crunch and textural contrast to the sashimi. The tuna was fresh and plentiful. This was a tasty appetizer.
Ankimo: Monkfish liver served with ponzu sauce. This was from their specials menu. Another tasty dish. It's like foie gras of the sea
Hanky Panky Special Roll ($15): Spicy tuna on the inside with seared tuna on the outside accompanied with Japanese mayo and yuzu miso. This was a great roll. The torched tuna with the cold raw spicy tuna on the inside paired well.
Tik Tok ($14): Coconut shrimp with crab meat on the inside and salmon avocado with mango sauce on the outside. This dish wasn't bad but not memorable
Nigiri: We ordered a lot, some of the standouts include Toro ($10) - This was a Chutoro, medium fatty tuna. This was good though I prefer Otoro.
Sweet Shrimp ($5) - Very sweet and succulent bonus points for including the fried head
Uni ($10) - The waiter asked if Japanese uni was ok? Hell yah it is. Very sweet and melts in your mouth.
A5 Wagyu Nigiri ($11) - The fattiest of fattest cuts of beef. Slightly torched and very buttery and delicious. My only gripe is that it wasn't served freshly torched. It arrived cold to our plates
Scallop ($3.50) - Pass on this. It wasn't as sweet and a little bitter aftertaste
Unagi ($3) - Pass on this. Like the Wagyu nigiri, I wish this was served warmer.
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. The waiters were attentive and friendly asking us on our likes and dislikes, refilling our tea cups frequently. Is this the best sushi I've had, no, but it is very good...
