My first time visiting with my sister and my son. We're from Elizabethton and just in town shopping for the day. Looking for somewhere besides fast food to grab lunch. Not being familiar with the locale, we thought we would have to pass it by because it seemed that all of the parking spaces were taken. So, I placed a call to ask how long of a wait they might have. The gentleman who answered the phone, actually came outside and directed us to a spot to park. Rain and all. I've never had an employee do such a thing. We came in, were quickly seated and our drinks were on the way. It smelled soooo good in there! We asked if their tea was real, "southern" sweet tea? Our waitress replied yes, and boy was she right. Our order of fried green tomatoes was absolutely perfect! I don't think they could have been any better at all. We ended up having to get a second order and decided that we could have all made a whole meal out of them. See, and for anybody who's not a southerner, this is one good way to tell if the food is authentically Southern. The tea's got to be as sweet as a Georgia peach and the fried green tomatoes good enough to fill up on! 😉 Our meals were great, sooo fresh, affordable and our waitress was wonderful too! Such a great experience that we will definitely be back. Heck, we would come back just for the fried green tomatoes alone! Thank you, Greene's Seafood, for a delicious lunch. We look forward to seeing you...
Read moreNot sure I put off visiting Greene’s for so long but finally visited during Lunch Hour. GFS surpassed my expectations in every regard. From the outside when driving by, I had always visualized a supplier centric business interior with sparse little complimentary seating offering little selection consisting primarily scaled down iterations of what they supply externally. I couldn’t have been more wrong. What we have is a quant location that offers authentic high-end cuisine at equally digestible prices. They service is equally top shelf and layout is easily navigated. Congested Parking can be tricky but that is an issue businesses are happy to have. We got lunch specials of Popcorn Shrimp and Blackened Tilapia, as well as a Fried Prawn dinner entree, all was tip-top. The batter is very light and crispy with exactly the right texture, without being greasy or heavy. Throughout the facility are market isles where GFS also shifts meats/fish/etc of all exotic varieties. I recall Alligator, Crawfish, Elk, Duck just to name a few. They’re simply unique and provide among the highest quality traditional food in all of Tri-Cites. It’s food, service, and atmosphere that you’ll crave the day following your last visit and that’s the highest praise I can give. I could go on & on about how impressed I am with GFS and my only disappointment is with myself for not...
Read moreWe just spent the last year in the South Carolina Low Country right along the coast, so we've been leery of trying seafood in the Bristol area. I'm sorry we waited so long because Greene's Seafood is Amazing!
We had the fried catfish, oysters, and Alaskan whitefish, and all of it was delicious. I actually wasn't expecting much from the oysters because the color seemed a little brown to me, but they were very flavorful, and the breading was perfectly cooked. They were as good or better than the oysters I was used to. Again, the dark color of the fries threw me off, but they were great too, and finally I've found a place that doesn't over season their fries. We also enjoyed the broccoli and cole slaw. Portions were huge, and we had enough for at least 2 meals or more. We also had the crab cake. I have to admit we had some really high standards to compare to, so it wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still really good and like others said a very generously sized portion with a lot of quality crab meat.
I'm impressed that they have such quality seafood so far from the coast and outside of a large city. We didn't linger in the market, but it looked to have a lot of interesting selection, and I'm intrigued to go back and try some of their salmon dip. We're definitely adding Greene's to our list of favorite restaurants and expect to...
