IHOP — Restaurant in Bristol

Came in at 10pm Saturday 1/18/25. I entered, heard the doorbell and someone in the kitchen. No one (customers nor staff) was in the dining room. I waited a couple minutes and no one came to seat me so I pushed the door again to engage the doorbell. A tall slender black gentleman (the cook) emerged from the kitchen and seated me and brought me a drink. He was unsure where the hostess/waitress was and there were no other employees. He asked if I might be ready to order so I gave him my order. He cooked the food, presented the food to me and brought me a refill but still no hostess/waitress. After I had eaten half the food a girl appeared and said “oh I didn’t know you were here” and I replied “ well you have a doorbell and the cook heard it”. Then she said, “oh well I was in my car” and I replied “well your job is inside the building not inside your car”. I was glad she walked off because she reeked of cigarettes. She came back later with the bill and said she discounted my meal. When I checked the bill she had discounted 15% or $1.86!!! Wow! A half hour she didn’t even know I was there and the cook seated me, gave me a beverage, took my order, cooked my food and presented it, and refilled my beverage and she was “sorry” so she discounted my bill $1.86!! If this experience was based solely on the cook I would give it 5 stars because he was great while performing two jobs. Someone in management needs to sit down with that hostess/waitress and explain what customer service is and what and where her job is. In the meantime management needs to give the cook a raise….. he...

1 star is generous. Second attempt eating here. First time took forever to be seated and to get food. Today, order was taken fairly quickly, but things went downhill from there. Five people in our party. We were brought a coffee pitcher with an explanation that there wasn't enough coffee in it but more would come after made. No cups though. Food for two of us came out and then nothing else for another 20 minutes, at which point one more person's order came. Asked to speak to manager who apologized and said she would apply a discount. About 15 minutes later, our checks came with a mere 10% discount. But my husband and I still did not have food. There were also charges on the tickets for the "free" crepes that we were told were buy one get one free. After waiting another few minutes, our waitress delivered a waffle to a table near us that had come in long after we had ordered. I was still waiting for my waffle. At that point, I told the manager I wished to cancel the rest of our order and asked that we not be charged for anything since our experience was so bad. She did accommodate that. I wish I could give zero stars! My husband and I went here today, probably won’t ever go back! We got seated right away, ordered coffee. Waitress brings a pot and 2 cups, the coffee was barely warm. We didn’t complain, should have. A few minutes later we order our food. He got a steak omelette and pancakes. Warm at best. I ordered country fried steak and gravy, eggs with cheese, hash browns and toast. My eggs didn’t have any cheese, that I specifically asked for, and they were cold, as was the rest of my food. She has the cook make my eggs over again with cheese. She brings me the eggs only. Not the country fried steak or hash browns or toast! So, I sit there eating just eggs, with the cold toast. By the time I get the rest of my food, my husband is completely finished eating, and I said, in front of our waitress “Well, I got to sit and watch you eat, now you get to sit and watch me eat mine!” The manager was not helpful, just said “We’re still training our cook.” We WILL NOT go back!!
