It's not often that I eat in Brownsville, but there are ocassions where I'm here running errands and I need to refuel my gut tank. Today was one of those days. I came here after an acquaintance recommended Mocambo and I must say, it came highly recommended. It's not a fancy dining place where one needs to get dolled up or wear your Sunday's best. The restaurant is humble, welcoming and wait staff was never overbearing. Our waiter brought us a cup of consommé and as soon as it touched my lips, I knew we were in for a real treat! The warmth of the soup passed my lips and reached my soul, making me realize this was the best consommé I had ever had.
The waiter returned to us with our drink order of freshly made limeade and we placed our order of a fish and shrimp platter. We continued to enjoy our savory soup, and not long after, our waiter brought us our platters. Grilled and fried shrimp and fish filets with a side salad, fries and what I believe was a derivative of "dirty rice" graced our table and we dined on delicious food. Everything was freshly made, warm and portioned conservatively. Enough to leave room for dessert!
Now, I've never been a big fan of flan, so when the waiter inquired if we were open to trying their freshly made flan, I had my reservations, but given that everything to this point was surprisingly delicious, I reluctantly nodded and he whisked away to the kitchen and brought us back a healthy slice of flan. The only word that could come out of my mouth after trying the first spoonful was "AMAZING". Boy, oh boy!! What a way to cap off our dining experience at Osteoneria Mocambo!
Try Osteoneria Mocambo. Your soul with thank you for it. As for me, I will definitely be returning to this establishment when my pallet desires some...
Read moreThe food was terribly aweful! We literally got up and left. The calamari was so hard, the white rice was brown and hard, the fries were like reheated, my shrimp cocktail had so much pepper it was so spicy, the ceviche was aweful. The tables were sticky. The owner didn't even acknowledge the fact that we left all his food there. Nevertheless, we still paid for the food $124 then only to check the receipt when we had already left and there was a charge for $115.28. The owner literally charged my hubby more. The only good thing was the waitress. She was very nice other than that we had a horrible experience. We will...
Read moreMocambo is a childhood memory. We tried to eat at another restaurant but the wait time was ridonkulous. We decided to explore our options and lo and behold... MOCAMBO!!!
I had the campechana The hubby had caldo de mariscos.
Then we had a delicious flan to complement a great meal.
Best part. It was a bargain and everything was fresh. Why wait for 30 minutes to be seated and eat defrosted TV dinners when you can eat fresh seafood?
So if you are looking for good seafood at a reasonable price served by a great waitstaff give...
