My fiancé and I go to Surfing Crab all the time in McAllen and we always have an amazing experience, we were in the brownsville area today and decided to stop at the brownsville location with high expectations that we would have the same amazing experience as the McAllen location.
As soon as we walked in we were just standing there waiting for a hostess to sit us, once we were seated we were sat at a booth directly under a dirty extremely loud air vent, we then had to wait a while for a waitress to take our order. We ordered the Daily Special (shrimp, crawfish, and snow crab) once our order was brought to our table and opened we noticed that the crawfish was missing and instead we got a lobster tail. When we pointed it out to our waitress that the crawfish was missing we asked if they could just bring out the missing crawfish to complete our original order.
At this point we’re already eating our meal waiting for the crawfish to come out when another worker comes up to us picks up one of the paper plates from our table and tries to take the lobster tail from our plate that we’re already eating. When I noticed what she’s trying to do I let her know again that we will just keep the lobster tail since it was already brought to us.
This same situation has happened once to us before at the McAllen location but the workers were extremely nice about it and let us know that the lobster tail was on the house since it was their mistake, they did NOT try and take it from our table.
As for the food it was extremely undercooked and got cold really fast. In the end they charged us for the lobster tail that we barely even touched because it was really undercooked.
Overall would not recommend this location, make the drive to McAllen you’ll have better food and a better customer...
Read moreI have been to multiple crab restaurants similar to this location throughout the United States. I eat crab from spots like this on a regular basis sometimes twice a week. My experience today at the Surfing Crab which was my first time trying this Crab restaurant was mediocre. The waitress was nice and polite and quick to respond to our needs as a customer. After the food was brought to our table, another server brought a signature cocktail drink which cost approximately $12 and placed it near the edge of the table. For anyone that knows eating crab your hands tend to get oily. While trying to move the drink across the table it accidentally slipped from my hand and half of the drink was spilled on the table before I consumed any of it. The waitress was quick to respond and took the half spilled cocktail and advised that she was going to speak to the manager to have another drink made. The manager quickly came and asked if I wanted another drink and I said “yes I am sorry it was an accident”. Sure enough the drink was replaced and after finishing our meal the waitress brought us the bill. Reviewing the bill I noticed they charged me the half spilled drink that they took from the table and advised that the manager did not want to compensate for the half spilled drink that was taken from their staff. If we would have known that my spilled drink was going to be charged I would have consumed the rest of the drink instead of getting charged twice for one drink. Being a lover for crab I will be searching for other restaurants and will not come back to the Surfing Crab because of how the manager handled...
Read moreThe place was a bit crowded when I went. I wish they would have had a little more space in between tables. It was too close to be next to strangers. The wait was long for the food but the restaurant is new so it's a matter of time before it completely stabilizes. They should have just one chef doing at least the appetizers so that at least it won't seem so long to get the food. I ordered a combo basket which was flounder with calamari and fries. They do not give you the option to pick your own sides which I believe would be way better for the customer since they do offer a great variety of sides. I ordered a side of fried rice, which at first I was excited about however it was dry. My cousin order a combination chicken fried rice and I thought maybe it would be different but it was also dry. My mother ordered the snow crab legs. Now this was delicious. They offer several flavors to choose from so it is good for them to do that. The flounder was good as well. I wish that they would be able to offer different sauces besides tarter sauce in the future. I had ordered hush puppies as a appetizer and since it was not brought until the meal I was given a clam chowder. It needed a little bit of salt and pepper but it was delicious in my opinion, it would have been best with some garlic bread...just saying. They do have other combination fried rice and burgers on the menu as well as chicken tenders, why not offer different Asian sauces? I think it would be just better. I do plan on going again because I do want to taste other items on their menu. I hope they take these suggestions into consideration for...
