Wow. I lived here nearly four years ago when this place was excellent. We've recently (last week) moved back to stay. If I had rated this establishment then, it would have been a 6 out of five stars, but now? It's on the lower side of mediocre AT BEST. The food has significantly dropped in quality, the service was totally scattered and disjointed. It took forever to even get an appetizer or to us, with our server, who was obviously stressed to the max poor guy, hurriedly explaining that there has been some error with the kitchen tickets not coming through the printer or some such. The lobster roll is NOTHING and NO WHERE near as good as it once was, although the price seems to be about the same if not a bit higher... My husband said the same of his eel roll. It was absolutely drowned in sauce to cover the mediocre quality and uneven slices. The fried rice Hibachi side was totally bland. Our server was in such disarray that he accidentally spilled someone else's (used) waters he was cleaning up on my husband and son's side of the table while handing my drink to me. He apologized, of course, and said he would return to clean the mess but never did, leaving my husband and son to use their napkins on it. He also sloshed my martini on my hand as he handed it to me during that whole debacle. Speaking of drinks, we only got one drink refill the entire visit. And finally, it took a whole 15 minutes for my husband waiting at our table (after me and my children left the table, clearly signaling we were done dining) to receive our ticket.
The whole experience was so poor that my husband, who has worked as a server before and usually never complains about bad service, asked to talk to the floor manager only to find out that there was no floor manager. There was only the owner, who was in the kitchen cooking. After speaking with the owner about what a poor experience we had, we were only comped $15 off the entire meal. Just about any other establishment with a decent reputation would have comped us half the meal if not the whole meal. I mean, they spilled a used drink from someone else's table that they were cleaning up all over our table while we were eating and never properly cleaned it, for God's sake.
This place used to be a fine dining experience, and the prices that they still have on their menu reflect that. However, with how it is now, I could probably get an equally satisfying dining experience at a McDonald's.
The only thing this place really has going for it anymore is a beautiful building. Good luck getting to the restrooms though. They had plastic bins with extra silverware/servingware/accoutrements stacked so tightly in the narrow passage that you could hardly pass between the bar-seated patrons and the bins containing the silverware to get...
Read moreOh dear.... Not good I'm afraid. Greeted by 2 people neither one of them in a mask. Clueless teenager and stressed out person watching him. They looked at the seating plan and found somewhere to seat us. They vaguely waved at the entire restaurant behind them and said "is that table good?" Sure... We're not picky. Then we had to seat ourselves and guess which table. Took a long time for a menu to arrive, even longer for drinks. Hey I have a question "what seafood is in the seafood curry please?" "Oh it's like shrimp and other stuff" I heard it is"whatever they can find in the kitchen", my husband heard " whatever comes out of the packet" either way it's a little dodgy. 2 appetizers. Chicken satay had a really good salad/sweet and hot dipping sauce but a very bland tasteless peanut sauce. Overall average. The Tom Kah (sp?) Soup was really good. Best thing we ordered. We had 4 entrees.1) Pad Thai was sweet,2) Green Shrimp Curry had limp overcooked veggies, tail on shrimp (ok in finger food, weird in a curry sauce) and came complete with waitress finger in the middle of the rice. These 2 dishes came out 5 minutes before the other 2. 3) pan seared duck was more like charcoal duck (like crumbling black chunks). The burned flavor affected even the flavor of the vegetables. 4) crunch sushi and eel sushi. Both sushi were made with soggy glutinous rice. I think there was some crab in one roll. Neither of them had seen an eel other than on the menu. The second roll wasn't quite ready because they had to run to the store to get the ingredients. It came after the meal was over and they put it in a to-go box. It looked worse than something you get at a grocery store and was pure rice possibly with a piece of cucumber. Waitress gave up wearing her mask half way through the meal. Every dish including the soup came in at a precarious angle. I requested extra eel sauce for the tasteless crunch roll. She forgot and brought it at the end of the meal. Overall this was terrible service and terrible food (except the soup). I am also pretty sure there was nothing "Thai" about the restaurant besides the name. I'm sorry, but I...

Dear Basil Thai Management,
I am writing to express my profound appreciation for the outstanding service and exceptional culinary experience I recently had at your restaurant. After driving over 6 hours, I decided to make a stop in Brunswick, GA, and opted for a pick-up order at Basil Thai. Having been previously deployed to Brunswick in September 2023, I recalled the remarkable guidance and recommendations I received from Destiny, who had expertly assisted me in finding the safest and best vegan meals your restaurant had to offer.
Upon calling in my order, I was delighted to be connected with Destiny once again. Her warm and welcoming demeanor instantly made my day. Trusting her expertise, I ordered the ginger salad and Thai fried rice with pineapple, and Destiny took great care to ensure that both dishes were entirely vegan-friendly, free from any non-vegan ingredients.
The flavors and quality of the meal were simply impeccable. While I would have loved to dine in and savor the ambiance of your establishment, my furry companion was waiting for me in the car. Nonetheless, seeing Destiny in person after our previous phone interactions was a genuine pleasure. Her beauty, both inside and out, shines through in her outstanding customer service.
I must also mention that the ginger dressing for the salad is, hands down, the best I have ever tasted. It added a delightful and refreshing zing to the dish, making it an unforgettable part of my meal.
Destiny's dedication to providing exceptional service and her deep understanding of vegan cuisine truly set her apart. Her commitment to ensuring a memorable dining experience for customers like myself deserves recognition and reward.
In closing, I want to extend my sincerest gratitude to Destiny and the entire team at Basil Thai for consistently delivering unparalleled service and delectable vegan offerings. I eagerly anticipate my next visit and look forward to more culinary delights when I'm in that part of the world.
Warm...
