Oh my! The Dining Room at Fryemont Inn is a truly delicious experience!

The historic inn is nestled in the mountains in Bryson City, North Carolina, just a little over 100 years old.

This inn, including the gorgeous 1920’s vaulted ceiling great room, is constructed from the now rare American Chestnut, which is aromatic in a way that enhances the dining experience.

First, we were warmly greeted and promptly aware despite not having made a reservation.

Our server, Josh, was great! I couldn’t decide on my entree, so he went ahead and started us with drinks and the soup course that comes with every full meal. The soup was an innovative BLT soup, with all of the flavors and textures of a bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwich in a creamy base. It was so good, I could have had only the soup and been content!

Next, Josh brought out crisp mixed greens with cherry tomatoes, croutons, and red onion with choice of house made dressing. My husband and I both had the blue cheese dressing, which was fantastic! I can’t vouch for the honey mustard or ranch dressings, but I bet they are equally as good.

I decided on the special of the night, Trout Florentine. The chef at the Fryemont gets the fresh trout daily! This particular preparation featured a roasted tomato and creamy spinach sauce over a perfectly cooked delicately flavored flaky trout filet. My husband had the buttery medium rare Prime Rib with horseradish, which was apparently so delicious that he did not offer me a bite!

The three family-style vegetables of the day were Parmesan roasted red potatoes, a tomato bake, and broccoli with cheese sauce. All were excellent!

For dessert, my husband had the homemade peach cobbler with ice cream, which I was too slow to get a photo of, since he wolfed it down as though he hadn’t already eaten soup, salad, prime rib, and three delicious sides. I held back and got my dessert-a blueberry sour cream pound cake with citrus glaze-to go.

We will...

I have never written a bad review but this one isn't going to be pleasant. I will start with the greeting at the main desk. First impression not so friendly. She seemed to be having a bad day. Went to cabin, parking was very tight. Entered room. Nice room but the smoke smell was overwhelming. Everything smelled like smoke even the pillows you put your head on. The room had a wood burning fireplace but the whole place needed to be aired out and everything washed. It was very hard to breathe. The oven was dirty. There were dirty dishes in the dishwasher. The air conditioner return was filthy. There was mildew in the shower. I realize we were in the woods but we were bombarded with spiders. Also, our room was not restocked or tidied up while we were there for two days. We had to do it ourselves.

Now for the restaurant. Great staff! The servers were awesome. Food not so much. They repurpose food. They took peach cobbler, mixed in blackberries and called it blackberry cobbler. The reason I know this is because there were peaches in my blackberry cobbler when they told me it was blackberry cobbler. If our meals weren't included with the price of the room, I would have been very angry to pay the high prices for the food on the menu. I give the servers a 5 and the food a 3.

I hate giving bad reviews but I was very disappointed. There just need to be more attention to detail for this place...

Great nostalgic atmosphere. Four course dinner that was included with our overnight stay was memorable. Best trout I've ever tasted. Try it pecan crusted, also GF. Prime rib a large cut, juicy and delicious. Tasty veggie soup to start is made with prime rib juices. Average salad enhanced by homemade salad dressings. Recommend the bleu cheese.Sides vary, we were told. Baked macaroni and cheese was perfection, not too cheesy and crunchy, made me think of 50s style diner fare or Grandma's best. Not usually a fan of limas, but dried beans cooked from scratch with ham (country probably) was a treat. Fried apples would have made my grandpa happy. They did have a GF dessert for my daughter and I enjoyed real key lime pie that was almost like cheesecake in texture, very dense and satisfying. Please treat yourself. Others obviously think highly of this spot. The night we were there four couples celebrated...

This is an interesting experience to say the least. They have been open since 1923 and it sure feels like they have been open since then. If you were big into the Ambiance of a place then you should definitely come here. I think that there is a lot to offer with this place. The food was good and it was reasonably priced for how much food you get. If we're going to be honest I was not a big fan of having the family style of side dishes, as I could have been content with my own. We are currently visiting cherokee, and this has been the best gluten-free dining experience that I have had so far. If I could not eat something the restaurant was more than accommodating to adapt to that. They ensured that if I needed a substitution they could find one. The menu is large and extensive. They have a nice wine list too.

Too bad they don't have more stars! This "Dining Room" is a five-star restaurant. The food is unbelievable. The service is impeccable. The atmosphere must be experienced to be believed. They are always fully booked. From the salad and soup to the dessert, nothing is second class. Top notch all the way. The owners are on site and make sure that every expectation is met. The Inn is quaint, the dining room cozy and comfortable. In the fall, the views are breath-taking.
