The grey haired lady was very friendly, tried to be very helpful and offered the information we were seeking. We ask about going a route we had never experienced for site seeing our beautiful NC-TN Mountains. We went on the Cheroxxx ( spelling) Skyway. She said it was a beautiful and very scenic drive. I DO NOT recommend that route at all except maybe for enjoying the curvy road on a motorcycle. There were only a couple of breathtaking views on the whole 40 mile Skyway. All the other pull offs and views from the highway were so overgrown with vegetation you had no view at all of the mountains and valleys. So she probably just didn't know how overgrown and not maintained the Skyway has gotten. The Information Center itself was very nice and clean with lots of maps on the walls...

Truly a gem of Bryson City. Easy handicap ♿️ access and an elevator to the second floor. Downstairs is the welcome desk and gift shop. Any questions about our little town will be answered here by a very nice staff. My favorite is the upstairs. There you can learn all about the area and its past. Terrific genuine artifacts are on display here. So much to see and even touch. A small 'theater' gives you a guided tour with it's video. My favorite is the replica of the old cabin. With porch and rocking chairs. During the Christmas season they decorate the place. Sit in the rocking chair, the perfect picture for Facebook. Look around and you'll realize how much passion and love went into the decor. Step back into a time long gone. A place...

Fun and informative place to learn about the history of Swain County, from lumber, rail roads, moonshine, and tourism. On the second floor and you can use the elevator. Free of charge. There are lots of antiques to support the history. I'm glad we spent the hour. Make sure you see the movie that explains the history of the area, the dam, and 1940 flood.
