The bad experience I had at Parkside Candy was so horrible and shocking that another employee followed me out of the store to apologize for the bad behavior of her extremely rude coworker. I came to Parkside on Good Friday to treat my friend and her children to some Easter candy, and planned on sitting down and ordering ice cream. I bragged about Parkside to my friend who had never been there before. We sat down at the table for about 20 minutes and no server came to greet us whatsoever. The sign said all dine in ice cream orders would be taken at the table. There were about 5 occupied tables in the store, and every other patron at least had water or a drink on their table served to them. After about 20 minutes of waiting I approached the counter and asked if I could place an order. The older woman behind the counter shouted "NO YOU CAN'T PLAFE AN ORDER! IT'S GOOD FRIDAY AND WE'RE BUSY." We were shocked. We had already paid for our candy and wanted to sit down for some ice cream. Of course it was busy on Good Friday, that was the only reason we came. If the store was backed up and busy, the appropriate thing to do would have been to approach us at the table and just explain that there was a wait. Mind you, 5 tables shouldn't be that hard to serve a simple ice cream order. I told the woman "I appreciate that you are busy today because it's a holiday. I really like this place, but what you said was exceptionally rude." She didn't apologize. Instead she complained that she wasn't supposed to work that day and had to come in on her day off and complained about having a knee replacement. Again, understandable if she was tired or frustrated. But she didn't have to yell "NO YOU CAN'T PLACE AN ORDER." Also, why get so frustrated for having actual foot traffic of customers on Easter weekend? We left with our purchase and her coworker came out side to apologize for her behavior to us in the parking lot. The children were very upset. I grew up in the neighborhood and I own a business nearby. I will not be returning to Parkside Candy. This employee ruined our special occasion experience by yelling and being completely unprepared to serve an Easter crowd, and taking her frustration out on customers who simply asked to place an order.
*Edit to add: The employee requested that we be more understanding and that she was trying her best. Unfortunately I have to disagree that her choosing to yell at us without any reason is not trying her best. In fact we were understanding that they were busy. If she had simply explained that they were closing the counter we would have understood and maybe come back another day. Instead she snapped at us and yelled at us for no reason when a simple explanation in a normal voice would have been enough. She never said they needed to close. She just yelled that no we...
Read moreWhere is the negative stars to rate? That’s what this place needs, negative rating is what is befitting, just like the negative attitude and absolute rudeness my kids, my friend and myself encountered there today. My friend talked about how she grew up visiting this candy shoppe, good times etc. and wanted to give my kids some memories from here, on Good Friday! Nope, that didn’t happen, apparently Good Friday was busy to visit lol…that was the point of coming here today, old lady!!!. We were treated poorly ,first by being rushed by the woman at the candy stand, we brushed it off and had an even worse experience at the ice cream stand🤦🏿♀️. Sorry, old woman, sorry you had a knee replacement etc. You were so rude and I’m glad everyone else saw how you couldn’t handle a simple question of if we could place an order, gracefully. Your co- worker was nice enough to apologize because it was very clear, how rude you were. Thanks for ruining my kids’ day and believe me when I tell you, your negativity and lack of professionalism was seen by all. The grumpiest old woman I’ve ever seen. Today was the first and definitely the last time I ever step foot in there. If the last thing to save me is from this place, I would gladly perish. PS: Instead of defending your employee’s wrong actions, take feedback and train them on how to handle customers. Advice not carry their personal issues into the workplace and vent about it. All we wanted was ICECREAM. Accept wrong and do...
Read moreI have previously been a fan of this shop for ice cream as I like to support local businesses and enjoy the decoration inside. However, the past two times when we walk in the ladies working have been quite RUDE. The last time I visited I remember brushing it off because maybe the worker had a bad day. However, this time I entered with my mother and approached the ice cream counter and were looking at the ice creams for only ~5 seconds. When we said we would like to sit down the lady gave quite an exasperated and frankly annoyed look and stated “why nobody reads anymore I don’t know. It says on the counter that only to-go orders are placed at the bar.” Meanwhile we haven’t even had time to view the menu and the sentence that says that is at the BOTTOM of the menu. We were quite shocked by how rudely we were greeted and frankly even if I had read that anyone in the service industry should not speak to customers (or anyone) that way. Extremely disappointed. We left without ordering and they didn’t even say anything to us. Likely will not be back because this is a repeated issue and reading other reviews it seems the worker(s) know this is an issue and do nothing to change it. Maybe place a sign as you walk in or at the TOP of the menu. But really… just be nice. If this place closes I wouldn’t be surprised but don’t...
