Park & Howard Bistro — Restaurant in Burlingame

I had very high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately must conclude that I will not be going back. I freely admit that I showed up on a Friday night without a reservation, but to be told that if I want to eat I have to leave by 7:30 does not set a nice tone. The menu is certainly very interesting and the food is pretty good, but you will pay a lot for what you get. A charcuterie plate with two slices of speck and two slices of salami for $14. I rest my case. The wine list is also very intriguing and they have a nice selection of wines by the glass. Unfortunately my Cabernet was served colder than my wife's Chardonnay and I had to warm it up in my hands for 15 minutes before I could drink it. To top it off they messed up our dessert order which did not help my already luke warm experience. An added bonus was that my first dessert came with a piece of chewed gum on it. The good port selection that goes with the dessert menu did help my mood a little though. In all one appetizer, one salad, one entree, one dessert, one glass of port and two glasses of wine ran me $120 before tip! Burlingame has many great restaurants, but unfortunately this one sits in the middle of the pack in terms of service and dining experience. Food was average at best, nothing special. Request that we were price cautious and request help from both the event managers and serves for the price of drinks but still brought out pricey drinks without informing us that they were additional. I told them that I was disappointed with them trying to get an additional cash grab from us and told them I’d appreciate if they told us sooner of the prices as I requested previously. They finally told us that they would give us a refund the next day and never did. If you want to go to a fine dining restaurant, definitely look elsewhere. Owners were rude and I feel bad for the servers because they’re just doing their job but communication between both them and the owners are terrible. Inside seating while warmer, was incredibly loud and made it hard to hear the person sitting across the table from me in a party of two. So if eating inside, recommend either yelling or plan to not really talk much. Our meal felt rushed went there for an anniversary and we’re in and out in less than an hour so if you like that, it’s the right place for you. It was not the vibe we were going for. We also made a reservation 2 weeks in advance and got sat at a table right next to the hostess at the door, felt like she was joining us for our meal.
