Summary: Terrible experience trying to order a birthday cake. Sad that birthday child was along with me when this happened. Super unfriendly unhelpful staff standing behind the counter at a store that says "Bakery and Cake shop" but unable to answer basic questions about size , price range, number of people cake models in the store will feed - 3 tiers or 2 tiers. Also walked out feeling like they didn't want our order and they really don't need our business.
Some more detail: Basically first person I met at 4:30 p.m. on a Sunday said she did not have these answers and also said I need to order by tonight if I want to get a cake in the timeframe I need to. She said if you come back after 20 min or before store close I can talk to the manager who can help but is not here right now. So I come back in about 45 min to talk to the manager. This experience is even worse than the attendant where I feel she basically doesn't want to talk to me or help me at all. She's all but putting up a front that shows she does not want my order. Specifically, she starts with saying that all the designs are online and I first need to look at that and next I need to tell her what flavor I want to get a price. I told her what flavor and said I just want a basic birthday cake design for kids Xth birthday. She's like well what's your theme , and is even more frustrated when I don't really have a theme but I do have a flavor I want. Then she rudely asks well is it a boy or a girl ? what's the occasion? After getting all the answers she's back to... well without knowing the design I cannot tell you a price range. At this point she has all the info like the size of party, the occasion, the flavor we want and the child whose birthday it is is right with me. Sadly we walked out of the store with no information and feeling like we will never come here ever again. The worst part was that I took my kid whose bday it is with me hoping to order a cake together :( Come to think of it I have tried ordering a cake here before and got very little info F2F. If via email or online is their process that it would be preferred if they said that and had big boards at the store saying our staff cannot answer your basic cake ordering questions so all communication with us is only...
Read moreThey have 2 sections to this location. One side of the store is for eating breakfast, brunch and lunch. You can smell the aroma of eggs as you walk in. I was actually tempted to sit down for breakfast but timing did not allow. The other side is for the coffee and pastry orders which has about 4 counters full of yummy goodness.
Downtown Burlingame is a great location and perfect if you also want to get lunch or do shopping nearby. The only downside is parking and feeding the meter. I was only able to use quarters for my meter.
Copenhagen's pastries, cakes, cookies, cupcakes and scones were good. Nothing really impressed me to return though. I was looking for great pastries and a good cup of coffee to start off my first morning visiting Downtown Burlingame. They coffee definitely turned me sideways. I asked the cashier to recommend the best pastry to pair with my coffee. She suggested the Chocolate Snail. Then I asked her if she had Pumpkin Sauce for my Cappuccino. She said that she was not a coffee drinker and that they don’t offer flavored coffee. I paid for my box of pastries and a Cappuccino. I was handed a receipt to walk to the middle counter for my coffee. I saw Pumpkin Sauce on the coffee counter so I asked the barista to add it to my coffee. The barista said that it costs money to add anything to my Cappuccino. I told her that I was willing to pay. She charged me another $1 for the Pumpkin Sauce. My cappuccino did not have any foam. It tasted like one shot of espresso diluted with too much steamed milk. I paid $6 in total for this awful Cappuccino that didn’t even come close to an...
Read moreHad a horrible experience with a special order cake.
I placed my order in person, more than a week in advance of the party. Spoke with Sherry in detail about what I wanted, she wrote it all down. I asked her the price and she said about $30 to $50 at most.
I come in the day of the party to pick up the cake. No one has any idea where the cake is or record of my order. I get tons or run around, no one will give me a straight answer. Finally someone contacts Sherry . She says they will make the cake in about a half hour.
Then I have the cake, it's not what I ordered but close. Nothing else I can do at this point anyway the party starts in an hour. I have to rush home. Then they tell me it will be $76! Yes, seventy six dollars for a cake to feed 6 people. It's not even what I ordered. I complain and they say that's the price, take it or leave it.
So basically it was extortion. If I had any idea it would be that much I would have left and gone to a decent bakery and gotten something else. But I had no choice now I had to just pay their ridiculous price or completely fail my mother in law by showing up to the party with no cake.
A decent company would have offered a discount for screwing up the order. Nope! This place charged me double price after they screwed everything up.
Horrible, horrible place. The cakes may be tasty but not worth the price and the customer service is so bad......
