It was a Thursday afternoon and my son and I wandered into Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers in Burlington in search of lunch. It was later than peak lunch hour but the place was surprisingly busy. Not chaotic but active. Alive. A steady hum of fry baskets and children asking for more napkins. Inside, the decor leaned hard into a 50s nostalgia trip. Red and white booths. Glossy black and white photographs of Freddy in his younger years lined the walls. Freddy in the Midwest. Freddy with ambition. Freddy before the frozen custard empire. The floors shone a little and most of the tables were clean, though a few looked like they had barely survived their previous occupants. Still, with how fast people were coming and going, a bit of leftover ketchup and a forgotten straw wrapper seemed forgivable. Despite the steakburger signs on the building, both my son and I ordered hot dog meals. His was simple. Ketchup and mustard. A heap of fries. He seemed quite satisfied. Said the special fry and steakburger seasoning from the condiment counter improved things dramatically. That was good enough for me. I ordered the chili cheese dog with mustard and onions, which was as predictably messy as it was enjoyable. It fought gravity and lost. But it tasted just right. The onion rings on the side were crisp, a little salty, and possibly engineered in a lab for maximum satisfaction. My son topped things off with a Key Lime Pie concrete. He offered me a bite. I declined. He said it was great. That was enough. Freddy's will not win any awards for elegance but it isn't trying to. It sits proudly in that space just above the fast food giants. A notch higher. A little more effort. A little more flavor. A little more Freddy. Four stars because there is always room for a clean table and a fifth star. But we'll be back. There are more hot dogs for me to eat in this world and I suspect a few of them live here.

BURGER. Visited on 3/15 around 6:00pm and was about a 10min wait to place order inside and another 10min to get shake, then 5 min to get food. Not bad imo since I had to park next door and walk over because there is currently only one way in/out. Best comparable place would be a Steak n Shake, but smaller menu and smaller footprint. Let’s get to it… the value for food is great. The burger was amazing. For the double burger combo at $9.99 with a side and drink, certainly better value than other fast food chains. Cooked and seasoned well, and the onion/pickle ratio was perfect. Fries… didn’t know how to eat the narrow fries… fingers or fork? They were hit or miss on seasoning so be sure to grab some extra packets they offer before you sit down. Pepsi products and amazing Luizianne sweet tea(my preferred tea). Kids meal $6.29 was good for my 6-year-old. Just enough with 2 good size tenders (nice flavor cause I sneaked a bite), and small fries with drink. Let’s shake it up… $6.19 for a large chocolate shake?!?? I mean, it was good… but so thick I had to use spoons for a few bites then decided to take it home to finish. I will likely recommend this for dinner OR dessert, but both every visit isn’t justifiable for me. I only have it a 4-star on food because the fries were inconsistent and price of shake, however I’ll gladly go here for a much better burger that’s not $12-$13. See you soon!

Went here on a Monday during lunch time. Surprisingly there was not really a line at the drive thru but we wanted to eat in. Walked right up to the counter and placed our order. The chicken tenders were very mid. 2 of the tenders had a weird texture. One of which I actually disposed of in my napkin. I don't think the tenders were cooked thoroughly. I think they were still slightly frozen. They were not pink on the inside though. My husband got the #1 and he thought it was good. We also got a dessert which was honestly a disappointment. The ice cream itself was nothing special. It's not creamy. You can get better ice cream elsewhere. For being a burger and ice cream joint, we were both not impressed. At all. I will give this place another shot more towards the summer when they've gotten their game down maybe. Don't think I'll ever try the tenders again. Def stick with the burgers. Also, something that bothered me was the floor had that oily, slick feeling. Definitely need to get that fryer oil grease off the dining floor. The joint hasn't even been open that long and the floor is gross. I was expecting more from this place but if I never go back I won't miss it.
