Hursey's Bar-B-Q — Restaurant in Burlington

We live in Charlotte and had to go to Cary for business for the day. Driving back we stopped for gas in Burlington and I noticed the hwy sign say H....... BBQ. We were hungry but had already ate that morning. We didn't want a big meal. I tried to look up the website but it kept referring to the Mebane location. We did get to pull up the menu to look through. We decided to go inside even though they do have a drive thru. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a young woman and she asked if we wanted to dine in. We told her yes and she told us to wait a minute and we would be sat. As soon as the only server saw us, he greeted and sat us. It probably didn't take 2 minutes before we both knew what we wanted. He grabbed the usual pork plate and I opted for the combo of pork and Brunswick stew. First bite of pork BBQ and we knew! It tasted like heaven. I imagine when they pull the pork they add some of their vineger sauce to it as well because it didn't even need more sauce even though for personal preference I did add more. The Brunswick stew was amazing! The hush puppies were light and fluffy and served with honey butter. Fries are the slightly battered kind. Fried okra on point. The coleslaw is mayo based but has just the right amount of vinegar to keep it fresh. Remember when I started and said "We didn't want a big meal"? It was the perfect portion size for us but we ate everything bc it was so good! It was the best meal we've had in awhile. We already discussed making the drive back just to eat again! Thank you! We definitely wish y'all had one...

The lady at the drive-thru window was very polite and friendly so that's why I gave 5-stars for service. I didn't give any stars for atmosphere because we were in drive-thru. Now let's talk about the food....my husband and I ordered two BBQ sandwiches because we just wanted something to eat quick. I really wish I took a picture of the two sandwiches. They barely put BBQ on it and a pinch of coleslaw in the middle of the BBQ. I was in uttered shock at how the ratio of BBQ to bun was unproportionate. We literally had to lift the bun to even see there was BBQ on it. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! The BBQ was so finely chopped you could barely taste it and it was so soggy that it made the bun soggy. Wait for the price....$11.79 for two soggy sandwiches with a smidgen of BBQ and a pinch of coleslaw. Look I totally understand that everything is going up because of the state of the economy, tariffs. So paying more isn't the issue but to receive that kind of food is substandard customer service and isn't the type of service I would like to patronize. I wished I had taken a picture of those sandwiches just to let everyone see it, but I was driving. We were too caught up talking about the sandwiches that a picture was the last thing on my mind at the moment, because I'm sure it is hard to believe unless you see it. Trust me I wouldn't waste my time to write a review about something that didn't actually happen. We plan on stopping thru again just to see if this is their normal portion or just a mishap......I promise I'll take a picture next...

By far the best BBQ restaurant I have ever had. My first job was actually here and this was the best coworkers and atmsmosphere I ever had. I know how the food is made and I KNOW it is legitimate. I never had BBQ or any of its food before working here and I love it. Even though I've moved an hour away, I go out of my way to come here! Hands down best BBQ, baked beans, broasted (yes BROASTED) chicken, slaw, Brunswick stew, ribs, BBQ chicken, shrimp, flounder, and hushpuppies around! BBQ doesnt even need sauce but their sauce has the perfect bite! The slaw is perfect the way grandma always made it except maybe a bit more pepper. Ribs are juicy and tender. The chicken is the BEST chicken anywhere (they do have a unique process). It is crunchy outside and moist inside and never fails. Their shrimp and flounder are both very good! I love baked beans cooked this way and I LOVE their hushpuppies. Serious addiction. Moist, fluffy, tender, buttery. Just wish they gave you more in an order. Overall best barbeque I have EVER had and ever will and well worth it. Chris, the owner, is wonderful and the entire Hursey family are great people to work for and with.
