I Had my 2nd opportunity to visit Occasions II with the most recent visit on Mothers Day 2018.
The atmosphere is great for entertaining a large group of people via a buffet style dinner. We had a group of 25+.
The food was good and hot. However, it was not plentiful. I missed out on the Mac & cheese even after 3 refills. I couldn’t stand by the buffet waiting as it took a while to replenish the emptied pans.
The green beans ran out, but the cabbage was delicious. The black-eyed peas & corn was yummy but I was confused by the dark squash casserole - the taste was not bad but the coloring was way off.
The baked fish stuffed with crab dressing was delicious - the fish was firm & the stuffing mixture moist & flavorful. And, I also enjoyed the fried fish even though it was a bit saltier than I like & I heard others make the same comment about the fried chicken which I didn’t try.
The turkey breast was moist and delicious. But I may be partial since I thoroughly enjoyed the singing that was served while my turkey was sliced. That was a treat - the gentleman carried his tunes really well.
Although I don’t eat them, my older family members were disappointed that there was no pigs feet left by the time we were seated at 4pm.
Thank goodness for the senior citizens & children’s discounts (5 & under free, 6-11 & SR’s half price)! Or else I wouldn’t have been very happy.
Since they don’t “promise” what will be served on the buffet, it’s hard to complain about what you don’t get. But, personally, I don’t think the available options are really worth the prices charged even if it does include “unlimited“ servings of several meats (4), sides (5), bread (3), desserts (4) and a drink.
The waitresses are always very accommodating and pleasant. Their beautiful smiles are welcomed & appreciated.
Since my extended family loves the place & there’s more good than bad, I’ll probably return and pay the prices charged, all with a lovely...
Read moreI stopped here today for lunch. When we came in, they had the rugs in the middle of the floor rather than in the pathway and that made it a little difficult for me to make it in with my service animal. When we got into the restaurant, the lady told me she could not accommodate me with my horse because there were too many people in the restaurant. After explaining to her that if she deemed it unsafe, she would have to close the restaurant until it could be inspected by the state, she accused me of threatening her. I explained to her that that's what the state laws are if she tells people they can't come in because of there being too many people. After that, they decided to let me in. I had the buffet and the food was fairly good. The rice was a little cold, but the roast beef, meat and mac and cheese were pretty good. I was a bit surprised at the bill when I left. I did not get a drink and the total was still over $19. That is way too expensive for one person to eat a buffet. I will not return to this restaurant due to the attitude of some of the employees and the highway robbery cost...
Read moreThrice, I've been lure into Occasions Restaurant by my neighbor, once during the week, once on a Sunday, after church, and the last time on a Friday evening. Sure, the smorgasbord of pig feet, chitterlings, more pork buffet on Friday evening is touted as best because of the live entertainment. However, the Friday night I went by taxi, there was no live entertainment. To me the total array of meats taste the same. The collard greens seem to have been frozen. The side salad it dumped unwashed from a pre-washed bag of iceberg (the least nutritional) lettuce with sprinkles of carrots and red cabbage. Summation, either the owner doesn't comprehend the use of spices, or enjoy the taste of southern soul food. My dad was a southern restaurateur, both he and my mother were products of great cooks of southern cuisine that I have passed on to my daughter and her daughter. Occasions overs nothing except fat building...
