I love leaving positive reviews, and I love restaurants that offer plenty of vegan options. While Planet Daily does offer plenty of vegan options, unfortunately I have to agree with the majority of negative reviewers who have said underwhelming.
We stopped in to celebrate my husband’s birthday after a grueling trip to get to Vermont - a bucket list trip for him (many cancellations, 40+ hours of no sleep, diversions, etc) and at The Daily Planet minimal things such as water refills were difficult to get..
We shared the Roma Salad, and in retrospect if it’s not flavored appropriately it would be very bland but we thought the garlic dressing would set it off, no, zero flavor. We asked the person who brought us drinks that were not ours (did not order/sent them back) to bring pepper and lemon wedges, nothing. We waited forever no lemon, no pepper, we probably waited ten plus minutes to eat our $14 salad. Our server finally came back and we were able to ask for lemon and pepper, still not quick, the option for freshly ground pepper was welcome and we got to hang on to the grinder for “later.”
The entrees were just ok, they could have been great but it potentially feels like someone not vegan is making them and feels like they can just call it in because it’s not their speciality. Both entrees we ordered lacked flavor, much like the salad.
Finally, it brings me to my trip to the bathroom. Not only was it filthy, unflushed toilet paper, overflowing trash cans, insufficient bathroom doors, literally no toilet paper in the stall I chose, overall uncomfortable. a back-up server who had brought something to our table before and paid too much attention to my husband even when I was there, took the opportunity to notice I was not at the table and was even more flirty. He described her actions as similar to the South Park cat in heat episode.
So in summation, bland flavorless food, no water refills, filthy bathrooms, and a classless back- up server. Definitely a can...
Read moreI recently went to the Daily Planet with a friend and her four year old and could not have been more pleased with our entire dining experience! We were greeted at the door immediately by the owner, Rachel, who was so kind and gave us the option of a few places to sit that would be most comfortable for our young guest. We sat in the room with all the plants which was beautiful! My friends son was given coloring materials and a cup that he couldn’t spill, and we immediately felt comfortable. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and as someone who has severe food allergies I appreciated her confidence and care of what was safe for me to eat. We both got delicious cocktails - mine was a play on a pain killer but was creamy and perfectly tart, and my friends had watermelon and basil which is so creative. And since it was a Tuesday, both of them were half off! Such a nice surprise! Drinks came quickly even though the bar looked busy and then we started off with the mango tartar which was so good and fresh I’m still dreaming about it. It was refreshingly cold and had the perfect salt level, and the chips were the best I’ve had in town. My friend’s son got buttered noodles with a side of fries and he said it was the best noodles he’s ever had in his life!!! I stole a few fries which were crispy and so good. I got the tomato basil pasta for dinner, which was perfectly seasoned and refreshing for the summer - I could tell the ingredients were fresh and I loved the olives on top. My friend got a burger which she said was perfectly cooked and delicious! Our food came out so fast, our waters were always full and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and especially the music (a few Celine Dion throwbacks which made us smile). Great spot for kids and families and fun for everyone. Food was perfect. We will...
Read moreWinners of: Worst location in Burlington. Worst bathrooms in Burlington. What is that stall? Falling apart, everyone can see you go, no room to sit or stand.... They should do something about that. I can't imagine that's up to code! Also, it's a fine place with good food (id give it a B), if you don't mind those other things. The portions to prices are not uniform in any way at all so it feels a bit chaotic. Some of the portions (cauliflower entree for 25 dollars) don't match the price. It's as if there are a few cooks in the kitchen & there's just enough off about this place to keep it from being charming. The bartenders are great & it honestly is a better place to sit at the bar & chill (if you already used the bathroom somewhere else). I sat outside after sitting at the bar & the waitress was awkward. Any time we thanked her it was "no worries". I'm not worried. Just say "you're welcome" & maybe make eye contact/look up from the floor every once in a while. Otherwise she was nice enough. The unfortunate ambiance to this that maybe made me a little more critical is that the location of this restaurant could not be any worse. It is in the alley of the tweakiest gas station I've seen here. There were many many people on foot passing by mumbling to themselves, a couple that was fighting loudly & clearly on some type of drugs (cops eventually came, found some kind of substance on them, & they ran!), & a whole other cast of characters (a woman with no teeth dealing to two Eminem lookalikes, etc). I know this isn't daily planets problem, but maybe refund the police? It's tragic. Anyway I give it a B - a nice enough place. The younger servers need to learn a thing or ten from the bartenders, & the cauliflower steak price should be reduced 5 dollars (or size increased), but the flavors are...
