TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! I DO NOT AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND UNION HOUSE AFTER THE HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD!
My wife and I wanted to try a new place to eat in the Burlington area and we decided on Union House and we couldn’t have been more wrong about our choice. We arrived at 5:20pm and the hostess was kind she asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside and we decided to sit outside because the weather was nice. At this time there were only people sitting at the bar inside and no one outside. The bartender/server outside was a white male with glasses and a man bun who looked like he really didn’t even care to be at work or dealing with customers. My wife and I looked at the menu after finding a table to sit at and then we decided to place our order at 5:35pm. We ordered a burger and shrimp tacos. A caucasian couple comes in after us and orders after us but received their food well before my wife and I. At this time its 6:10 and I had an issue with that and decided to say something to the bartender about it who then turned his back to me and said something ineligible that I couldn’t hear. So then I told him he was being disrespectful and that I didn’t appreciate it. After getting upset I told my wife lets leave and talk to a manager first. After walking back inside we ended up talking to Katherine/Catherine who was the acting manager on duty about our experience and she had no empathy or sympathy and then tried to tell me that it takes 30 minutes to cook a burger from raw to well done. I told her I am a chef and have been in the culinary industry for 14 years and there is no way I will sit here and allow you to lie to me about how long it takes to cook a burger and serve it to your customer especially when i have ample amount of experience cooking them from scratch and making them from scratch commercially myself. She didn’t even listen to my story and kept cutting me off while I was explaining what had just transpired and I told her as well that I didn’t appreciate it, she just continued to argue me down about it trying to say there was a “printer issue.” If there was truly a “printer issue” then why were we the only ones without food? Is it because we’re African American? And happened to be the only colored couple dining their tonight. The dining room was full of patrons at this time that came in after us as well and everyone had plates in front of them also. At that point my wife being the sound reasonable voice that she is ended up talking to her about not even wanting the food. We just ended up leaving with a horrible taste in our mouths. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. Katherine kept speaking about me being upset and rightfully so.. anyone experiencing that...
Read moreFirst time at The Union House and unfortunately, I won't be back. Our experience from the door was disappointing. The hostess might have been training someone and if that's the case it's even more concerning how unfriendly and bothered by seating us she was. Our waitress came and took our drink order fairly quickly but our drinks took quite sometime to arrive despite the place not being full/busy. They took long enough that we actually were going to leave but as we were about to stand up, I saw someone walking towards us with two drinks. We should have left. We ordered the colossal shrimp cocktail as an appetizer and when they came out we were trying to figure out how they were considered colossal. I also ordered french onion soup which arrived with a charred 100% black crouton on top. The soup was flavorless and the only flavor in the cup was from the cheese that was packed in there. We both ordered fish and chips with fries and also a side of cheese biscuits. Both my boyfriend and I could only tolerate one of the pieces of fish and didn't eat the fries. The fries were again flavorless and also soggy/moist. The fish fell apart but not in a good way since it was fried and it was also flavorless. The cheddar biscuits came out with HUGE chunks of butter on top that never melted because they didn't come out warm. They broke apart when cutting with a fork because they were so dried out. When the waitress asked how our meal was we did tell her it was pretty disappointing but felt bad telling her that every single item we ordered wasn't good felt too mean. She was kind enough to take one of the fish and chips off the bill but the bill was still over $75. I really hope they get it together in there because they have an amazing opportunity with the new condos/apartments behind them. If they keep serving flavorless food, they're going to be out of business in no time. I'm not going to say don't go to this place because I would hate to see any local business fail but be cautious and maybe just order an appetizer and see how it goes. I'm hoping they read their reviews and make...
Read moreI never leave reviews but I was really disappointed in this place. My first time visiting and was excited. The service was good I will start with that. But the food was terrible. We were a family of 4, my son got hamburger which was good no problems but other then that the food blew. My daughter ordered the kids pasta and it tasted like the sauce was just tomato paste, it was disgusting. She tried to choke down a few bites just for the sake of not disappointing anyone, we told the writer about it and they did not even take it off the bill. I didn't make a thing of it but that is just what should of been done. The gnocchi was tasteless and my chicken wrap taste like nothing unless the spicy mayo was in my bite. The straw that broke the camels back was, I had a doggie bag to go home and left it at the table for under 1 minute. They cleaned the entire table within that time frame and thew my food out (meanwhile the place was not busy and there were plenty of tables for anyone that could be waiting, which was no one to be seated). They did offer to make me a new one, which I appreciated but I didn't have time to wait around for it as I have 2 little ones who had their fill of being out. Will not...
