Asia Buffet — Restaurant in Butte

As an international student at tech, I had my first horrible experience in eating out with some other international students in Butte. I wish, I had read some reviews before going to this “Asia Buffet” place but little did I know what kind of rude and horrible behavior that old man behind the counter can show (picture attached). As an Asian, we felt a sense of pride while going to this place but I am still in shock of what kind of an experience we faced this evening from another asian person. As soon we entered, the man asked us to pay the bill first and I asked him politely if he has any student discount for Montana Tech students and he sarcastically replied back, “you guys are still students?” I did not reply back to this rude remark, but we paid our bill. I decided not to add any tip because his comment was disrespectful as this was none of his business if we are still studying or not.

Then as we were serving ourselves, that man came to us and said “Hey you, don’t put your sticky hands on the spatula”. I found that rude because he could have said it in a better way.

All that time we were sitting there, I was so conscious of his presence around us and after every 10-15 mins, he would come back, glare at us and take the plates away without even asking. We spent more than an hour there and when we were about to leave, he asked us if this was our first time? To which, we replied, “yes”. That man told us to not come back again ever and he will not serve us again. He said horrible things to us like we ate too much, spent too much time there and did not tip him. When I interrupted him by saying we did not eat your food for free and it was a buffet. He rudely said get out and went inside the place. I and my friends went for a buffet and we paid $45. Two of us are girls and I don’t think we ate that much. I had no issue with the food but with the horrible service of the host. He was not just rude but inconsiderate, ill-tempered and mean. I would never ever recommend an international person, let alone an American citizen, to go to this place because this doesn’t represent even an iota of asian culture or its values. Where we come from, we treat people with utmost respect, dignity and humbleness. Tonight, I and my friends were humiliated and treated awfully. I will never go to this place again. I have been here in Montana for more than 1.5 years as a student and always been treated with kindness and hospitality of people...

I have been going to this restaurant for almost 9 years now and this is the first time that man that runs the register tall middle age was rude to my son asking him if he was gonna leave a tip when we were leaving waited until my son was alone because I was ahead of him I’ve been in the restaurant business for 40 years. My family owns restaurants. You don’t ever ask the customer to leave a tip and then he said don’t come back here again. My son said I don’t have any cash on me. That employee knew my son paid with a debit card. My son is young first time he was paying for us to eat out, it was my birthday. My son didn’t realize that you can put a tip on the receipt when you first pay, but that was uncalled for, that was unprofessional and downright rude, and if he would’ve said it to me, I would’ve put him in his place. I would have embarrass the hell out of him. You Don’t ever speak to customers like that ever!!! My son was upset even the next day, also ruined my birthday. I also reported him to the BBB people like him shouldn’t be serving the public! by the way that review above me that states who doesn’t know you’re supposed to tip at buffets…let me tell you something a tip is based on how you’re treated and serviced at the table and if somebody is only gonna take one plate away when there’s three people the whole time you’re there, not speak and not do anything else does not deserve a damn tip! Read onto the other reviews you see he has done this to a lot of people . That idiot doesn’t realize he’s lost a lot of customers. He’s also an idiot because it’s not mandatory tip. If you do, it’s based on how you treat people and how much service you have performed which he did nothing except take one plate. no smiling, no talking very disrespectful. Does not know how to interact with people or his customers. he also has no right telling people not to come back because they did not tip! The only way you can tell a customer not to come back is if they were disruptive Which we were not and reading the other reviews neither were those people!!! Which tells me this guy is a moron and needs to learn restaurant, ethics, and brush up on how to service people in a restaurant. I’m sure he’d be embarrassed to realize what he’s doing is wrong...

This place is wild. A year ago, I ate here with 3 other friends. The food wasn't bad at all. It was all self-serve, including your drink, which is fine by me. We had a feeling that the owner was just staring us down the whole time until we realized that he was making sure we ate everything we took which is fair I don't like wasting food either. But I didn't realize we had to almost lick everything off the plate. All 4 of us are very generous tippers as long as the service is good. We felt like a tip wasn't necessary because we got our own drinks and plates and utensils. Well this man asked for a tip before we left and to avoid conflict we just gave it to him. Whatever no big deal, we just won't come back. Well yesterday I was out fishing near butte and was craving chinese so I gave it another chance. I came in with the intend to tip just to avoid the embarrassment of being asked for it in front of other customers. My expirince was the same. I feel like you're experience here will be fine as long as you leave a good tip and to eat absolutely everything off your plate. He will stare you down the whole time. Literally stare you down and your plates. Its uncomfortable. I shouldn't have to worry about these things when I go to a restaurant. Nobody should. Has anyone noticed the amount of 5 star reviews saying how good of a man the owner is? Ive seen a lot of reviews for restaurants and there is no way that these reviews are legitimate. The food is actually good. Its a shame. He could be a lot busier. Also the fact that he will refuse chinese customers because they don't tip is outrageous. I understand he has the right to refuse service but it's just turns into discrimination. I means it's like me owning a Mexican restaurant and refusing service to all Hispanics. Its just odd. I'm not here to bash a business just because I'm petty. Like I said. The food is actually pretty good, but the owner is just out of control. For everyone claming that he refuses service to anyone who didn't tip the last visit. I totally believe it. This guy...
