I go here for several special occasions each year and I always enjoy it. I always get an extra order of Clams Maison and, though I've had and enjoyed everything on the menu, I always order the Beef Wellington because I need it. I don't go here the day of Valentine's because they've botched that day too many times, so beware on national night out dinner days. Dinner items can be pricey, but I have never regretted getting the bill; lunch is more than reasonable. Service is usually prompt and always courteous. Nice clean and relaxing atmosphere. Would get 5 stars, but, while fantastic, I have to consider restaurant chains like Ruth's Chris and top one-offs like Spinasse in Seattle, which are true 5 star establishments, but there isn't anything better in Butte.
2025 Update: Since Covid, this place has changed hands a few times, and while the vibe has been updated nicely, the food, at least the entres, have sadly never recovered. The prices have significantly gone up and the quality has significantly gone down, which is evident in the number of guests around us on a Saturday night, so at least the service was excellent. For nearly $100/ person, my wife and I had the worst Beef Wellington we've ever had, only rivaled by the last time we tried the Uptown Cafe, fool me once... My wife and I wanted to give it one last chance to see if it was just growing pains of new ownership, nope. My wife says their lunch is good, and I hear that from others too, but we've had our last dinner at the...
Read moreWe were pleasantly surprised once we entered the establishment. The inside is much more attractive than the outside might suggest. We did not have reservations but within five minutes a very friendly host found a table for us. We were quite surprised as it was obviously very busy. But I would recommend calling for reservations. We had a very motivated pleasant young lady as our server, she was busy but took very good care of us. We had been given a voucher for a free glass of wine from our hotel, “The minors boutique hotel“ also highly recommended, the wine was delicious and we can hardly believe that the first two glasses were on the house. We then made selections from the four course menu, that’s right, a four course menu. Everything was absolutely delicious! With each course, we became even more impressed. We usually don’t stick around for dessert and coffee, but everything was so good including the atmosphere we decided to get the pecsn ball and cheesecake. Again, wow! We highly recommend this place, for the price it’s probably some of the best eats we’ve ever had. Siri said that this place was somewhat expensive, on the contrary we found to be very underpriced. We would highly recommend this place to anyone, and we hope to return soon! Great job...
Read moreI consider Uptown Cafe one of Butte's saving graces. Consistently consistent. Sometimes I am not sure if I appreciate UC because I have been going there for two decades or if it is for the food. No doubt, the atmosphere and home town personal service are at the top of my list for reasons I return again and again. The location is in historical downtown. Their wine list, while limited, hits all the necessities for a small town restaurant and I appreciate knowing, when I walk in the door, what to expect. The food quality can vary but is usually pretty good. Occasionally they will miss the boat on something simple. They usually do a good job on their fish and steak dishes and are quick to fix anything if I am not satisfied. Their attitudes are always "Montana friendly and respectful." A walk downtown after dinner makes visiting Butte all the more wonderful after a relaxing dinner at Uptown Cafe....
