Very roomy restaurant. Could use a fresh coat of paint and a good cleaning because you can see dust on the hanging lights as well as the plants. As far as the food is concerned, did not really care for the taste of the salsa or the chips, both had a distinct flavor that wasn't pleasant. The food was pretty good. I had a $19 dish that started with an 'A' that had skirt or hanger steak which was pretty tasty. My husband got a chicken enchilada with red sauce which he liked. I tried it and told him he should have gotten the green sauce which might have given it a little more zing. My friend ordered chicken fajitas which she said was good. I ordered a house margarita which was delicious but after a couple few sips of it I noticed something black floating around in it as well as a couple other little brown specks. My water as well had some black speck in it. Pepper?? My knife that was wrapped up in the napkin had like a dried piece of onion, fairly good sized, on it.

The 15$ steak taco salad is delicious but I don't think they know what a light pour drink is. I asked for a light pour drink as I didn't have a ride home & ended up with straight tequila. I mean, I got one of those large beer mugs full of tequila. Normally that's my kind of drink but I had a blended mango margarita & I didn't have a single taste of mango. Idk how they got it yellow unless they used yellow food coloring because the only thing in my mug, was the tequila. They charge 10$ for potentially 5+ shots of tequila in one mug which is a pretty good value for money in my opinion. But you need to decide if strong pour drinks are your jam or not (I'm told that all their drinks are strong pour, not just the margaritas). Either way, who needs a night club when you can go to Kico's?

Ordered online for pick up. Order was waiting for me upon arrival in a massive shopping bag. Somehow I knew that this was going to be a feast to enjoy and when I got back to the office I wasn't disappointed. I ordered a carnitas lunch special for $10. The meal came with a bag of fresh, warm tortilla chips, a large container of freshly made pico de gallo salsa and 2 large hot soft tortillas. I opened up the to-go container to discover everything in the container was still piping hot and the aroma of this Mexican freshness filled the room. A generous serving of carnitas was heaped on 2 soft tortillas sprinkled with fresh lettuce and tomato. I smothered the carnitas with the pico de gallo and dug in. Truth be told, I could barely finish it. Yum!

Really annoyed. I had given them a good review before when I first went there but since then my review has changed. I was looking everywhere for caldo de pollo. So, I was excited to see they have it on their menu. Per Google. So, I Called and asked if they still have it and if I could add veggies. Because apparently it only comes with shredded chicken and rice. Ummm 🤔 ok that's not caldo de pollo that is Caldo de pollo con arroz (chicken and rice) but glad I was able to get veggies added. (Even if it's only carrots and zucchini) 🙄 REAL Caldo de pollo comes with Chicken legs or thighs. Not shredded rotisserie meat!!!!! corn on the cob, celery, carrots and zucchini not rice FYI Take notes!!!! lol 🤦😂But, I decided to take the trip anyway I wanted soup. I drive all the way over there. It is out of my way. I go in and up to the register to order. This guy turns around and tells me to have a seat someone will be there to take my order. Not even looking at me. Shews his hand ( He is the same one I spoke to on the phone. Same Voice and rude tone.) I'm like ok again because I was at the register why I have to wait for a server was annoying but I do it. I'm waiting and he proceeds to walk over to some customers eating and start talking about his 15 year old son. I'm waiting, watching two server's pass and ignore me and I'm watching him and he still tells Noone I am there. Or acknowledges it. I waited a little more and after a few minutes I obviously get irritated and leave. That is beyond rude and because of that I will not be going back or recommending them. Could of at least paid for my gas lol j/s. 🤷 Didn't want chicken and rice anyway. I wanted REAL caldo de pollo. Acknowledge ur customers!!!!! RUDE! I wouldn't even star them but it won't let me post if I don't. I think they are known for the tortillas and salsa because they are homemade but yippee we all can make tortillas and salsa 🙄 The food was not that great last I remember. Or I would of kept going back. I go to a better place. I just wanted chicken soup. But I will make my own. Guaranteed it's better and thankfully his rudeness saved me $17.00 for chicken, rice and broth because I was to lazy to make my own. So thank you LoL 😂 Another tip add tortilla strips and call it chicken tortilla soup with rice 😂...

My family are here at Kikos on Wednesday night January 2, 2019. We were having a final meal with my son as he was shopping our for army boot camp first thing the following morning. Where to start... my drink. I ordered a mechelada with midelo. I am certain I was given a light beer. The server insisted I was not. My father ordered from the menu “a carafe” of red wine. He was brought a glass. A dirty glass at that. When I questioned this the waitress told me that was a carafe. I was very confused. I am not a wine drinker but I was certain a glass was not a carafe. I looked at the menu again then asked whom I think was the manager. He informed me they do not have a carafe. I showed him the menu and asked why it is advertised. He then told me again they do not have the carafe container and would bring out something larger with wine. Ok. Still waiting for our food. The waitress could not have been less informed or less pleasant. It was like it was her first day and had never spoken to anyone in her life. Very poor service. The food came and it tasted decent. But then... I went to bed and shortly after woke up in the worst stomach pain, cramping that was unbearable. I then found myself in the restroom every hour for what is now 3 days straight. Still abdominal cramping and nausea. No vomiting just severe extreme diarrhea. I have never experienced food poisoning. But I heard from my other son that did not ship off that thief father who had joined us has been incredibly sick too with the same symptoms. He and I both ate their house gravy with chips. No one else at our table was eating it other than our son who left for army boot camp. I haven’t heard from my son. I cannot imagine what his reception week must be like should he be experiencing any symptoms. The restraunt was filthy. Very outdated. The service was incredibly poor and then the illness. I had went here because it was one of my mother’s favorite places in sac. She has passed now, 4 years ago. I’m just sharing in case you are reading this wanting a Mexican food option in Sacramento. My advice, do...

I hesitate on how many stars to give because I'm mixed in my opinion of this restaurant. The ambiance is strictly old school which is cool. The black high backed booths, red wall paper etc. The drinks are terrific. They have no problem with a killer Cadillac margarita. I pitcher for 4 and you probably would blow a. 10! Worth every penny which wasn't very much compared to other places around town. The service was sparse at best and nonexistent at the end. We had 4 different people trying to help us either all at once duplicating our order or forgetting about us when we said we needed another minute before ordering. There were only 4 other tables so they weren't slammed. The host was dressed interestingly. Calf length jean shorts, over sized stained T shirt and untied tennis shoes with black socks. Really? I wasn't expecting a tux but . . .? The food was also interesting. The shrimp coctail was nearly a meal in itself. Served up in an oversized stemmed bowl with at least 6 jumbo shrimp with lots of avocado in a coctail sauce the was excellent. It was more like a gazpacho than a cocktail but it was great. The balance of our meal was palatable due only to the fact that we were starving. The Spanish rice was scorched beyond belief and the beans were galopando flavorless. Like they'd thickened them with lots of flour or something. There were no shrimp in the shrimp enchiladas. The chili verde was made with very untrimmed pork ie: chunks of gristle and fat only. Flavor was surprisingly good though assuming one wanted Chili Verde flavored soup. When this place opened about 30 years ago I was a regular patrón and remember it as being flawless in nearly every way; price, quality, service etc. Years went by and I'd forgotten about it. Now it appears they are resting on their laurels from times gone by. I felt like the talentless kids had taken over for mom and dad and just weren't putting in the effort and love their parents had. I don't know for a fact of course but it was kinda sad...
