It's extremely okay. Granted, I went here a week ago so maybe things have been picking up and the owner's getting settled in. The name "K & J Donuts" is apparently modeled after the owner's kids' names which is cute. When we went the night prior, there weren't any hours listed around the storefront, so we didn't know when they opened or closed; we ended up having to ask personally. The chalkboard menu is also hard to read due to the faded lettering and scrawled handwriting, albeit giving it a personal touch. There's a verrrry generic selection of donuts. You've got your classic spinkled rings, cake donuts, apple fritters, bars, and something called a buttermilk donut which is okay. The texture of the donuts is almost akin to what you can obtain at a classic Safeway or Bel Air--a cakey chewy texture that isn't fluffy nor memorable--so it's really disappointing, especially since the donuts are pretty pricey. I will say the glazed donuts and the donut holes are not bad. Can't go wrong with a glazed. The maple bar, though, is again, strangely similar to something I could get at Bel Air. Maybe that's the intention, but at the price, why would I choose this shop? Service was great. Owner was friendly, and I felt like a regular despite the place being new. Even got an extra donut. The decor is also very reminiscent of classic donut shops from the late 90s, early 2000s, like a time capsule. I don't have pictures but you'd know if you visit. Being new, it's very sparse and clean. The kitchen area is huge and fun to look at, unlike other shops that have walls. To be honest, however, I fear that if the owner doesn't change his recipe or come up with some crazy donut styles, they may or may not last depending on the goodwill of the locals. If I want soft and fluffy quality donuts, I would go to Golden Donuts. If I want something crazy, I could go to Bad Bakers. I REALLY want this place to succeed because it's so close to my house, and finally having a local spot to call my own would be super awesome. Alas with the simplicity of it all, the mediocre quality, and the price, it may be a while before I give this place another shot. In these uncertain times, I wish this place the...

Read moreSadly this rating is based on a decrease in positive experience since this placed open. We used to LOVE this place! Mark the owner put this place on the mark with his warm welcome, personalized encounters and “small town” touches (welcoming my kids like he’s know them forever, giving a couple donut holes to the dog). Mark’s welcoming smile could light up the whole day. However, sadly Mark has hired other people to take over the shop and now it’s just an average donut shop. There are different people every time we go in now, they greet us with a mediocre hello at best, and when I tried to get a couple donut holes for the dog I was told I have to buy a dozen. I didn’t mind paying for them, but I didn’t need a dozen. So I just paid for a dozen and told him to just throw in 2-3 for the a dog. It’s the little things made this donut shop feel like a small town familiar place and now, sadly, it’s just another donut shop. We will probably return to our prior place across town. Mark, sadly your new hires are just not maintaining that spark you put into your...
