Every Thursday like clockwork, I pull into The Original Chicago Pizza and Curry in Elk Grove — and let me tell you, this place isn’t just food, it’s therapy wrapped in naan and melted cheese.
Let’s start with the lamb curry. It’s not just good — it’s generational. You have to know what you’re doing with lamb, or else it carries that aftertaste and smell. But these folks? They prep it like they got the recipe from the gods of spice. Tender, juicy, perfectly balanced — I’ve caught myself finger-licking in public like I forgot I had manners. And the rice? So fluffy it could double as a pillow.
Then there’s that drink. I don’t know the name — mango something with yogurt — but it’s like drinking happiness through a straw. Once I introduced it to friends, daughters, and girlfriends… now they’re going back without me. No store carries it, no other restaurant gets it right — it’s the spot.
Now here’s the twist most people don’t know: the pizza. Not just any pizza — custom pizza. I get mine on white sauce (a unicorn in the pizza world). Round Table never did that for me. But here? I say “give me a combo, but on white sauce, toss in this and that,” and they’re like, “Got you.” No eye-rolls, no up-charges, just real people making real food how you want it.
So whether I’m on a solo mission or pulling up with my girl, this spot always delivers — food, vibe, and that extra something that keeps you...
Read moreCame here with colleagues who eat here regularly. This was my first time. Colleague called ahead with their order. They called in my order 10 minutes later. I specifically asked for hot wings as an appetizer. They took the order. They brought the somosas out as an appetizer but no wings. I told one dude to cancel the hot wings since it's not brought out as an appetizer.
We said we would be there at 12:15 to have our meal (limited lunch time). They didn't start serving us until 12:30. They brought the hot wings out with the spicy chicken. Can't eat both at the same time. After I told them to cancel the hot wings since it's no longer an appetizer.
He said they were busy and we ordered the wings later. Fine, then tell us you can't serve them as an appetizer and we can have the option AHEAD OF TIME, whether we'll order them or not. I sent the hot wings back since I had already told a previous server to cancel them since it's not an appetizer.
Went to pay and he said he kept the hot wings on the bill since we ordered them. We argued. I said I'm not paying for them since I didn't get them at an appetizer. He said I have to since I ordered them.
He kept interrupting me to tell me while he was right. I gave up listening to him. My colleague ended up paying for it and taking it. The food was okay but not worth the hassle with know-it-all owners who have to be right and have to tell you why they're right without ever...
