Had lunch at Mr. Ricks at Avila Beach. Location is incredible, patio is dog friendly. They have “dog rules” on every patio table, but they are not enforced. For example, the rules say barking or biting dogs will be asked to leave, but there were a couple small dogs, a Jack Russell in particular, that lunged, nipped, and barked at other dogs, and even escaped his leash and had to be chased down by the owner inside the restaurant - with no consequences. If you have rules, enforce them. Service was great, food was so so - about what you’d expect from a restaurant with such a prime location - they don’t have to make it in the quality or price of their food. I had the salmon Caesar salad - tasty but small portions and the croutons were more like small rocks than dried bread - why do restaurants do this to croutons? My spouse had dairy and gluten-free tacos; not bad but waaay too many onions. Salsa was tasty. So - great location, great service, not bad food, pricey.

Can't go wrong with some Mr. Rick's grub. It's fun to post up on their outside patio and have a drink while enjoying the fresh ocean air. The atmosphere is always chill and fun, good tunes and a good crew that takes care of you. Everything on their menu is tasty, go with the nachos if you can't decide, the best! This day (during COVID-19) pandemic we took our order to go and had a picnic on the beach while the sun set. Burgers are hardy and juicy with all the yummy fixin's. Fries and onion rings are high quality and delicious. They even had some yummy homemade type cookies I couldn't resist. They have a safe and conscientious set up to adhere to guidelines during the pandemic.

I got this shameful receipt from here on 12/13/17 at 5:57pm. The suggested tip percentages are not only listed in order of 18%, 20% and then 15% to be misleading, but the totals for those percentages are complete lies. “15%” shows 28.95%, “18%” shows 34.74% and “20%” shows 38.6%. After pointing out this blatantly misleading receipt to the bartender, supposedly “Thor”, my receipt was rudely pushed back at me. If they don’t mind trying to steal your money, they won’t mind stealing your phone, purse or wallet, etc. I use to enjoy going here regularly, but it’s changed a lot over the years.

First off, due to Covid we tried to order food online through Custom House with no avail. We went into the restaurant, only to be sent next door to Mr Ricks, advising us it was the same restaurant. There were four people in line, in front of us at Mr Ricks. Thirty minutes later we were able to place our order. I advised that the order was “TO GO” before I placed the order for a California Burger with clam chowder soup & a California Burger with onion rings. I paid for our meals & asked where do we pick up our order. The young lady said “oh, this is to go”, and advise the manager walking by to tell the kitchen that order #17 was to go. I was given a table number and told to sit at any table on the patio to wait for our take out order. About 20 minutes later the water brought our order not packed for take out. We advised him that this was a take out order. He the took the food back to be put in take out containers. When he brought the bag of food to us, I specifically asked if the soup was in the bag. He said yes. We took our food and proceeded to walk two blocks back to our vehicle, only to realize that there was no clam chowder in the bag. Yes, there were crackers and a spoon for the soup, but no soup. We were unable to walk back to the restaurant due to physical disabilities/limitations. It was very disappointing to pay $2 extra to substitute the fries for soup and get neither. And to pay $2 extra to substitute onion rings for fries & only get 3 onion rings. Although the California Burger was good, we will not patronage this restaurant...

Came here on a Monday, coincidentally it was just in time before Happy Hour ended, got a nice spot right inside the door, had a great view of the ocean and outdoors, plus some cool sports venues on the tvs, excellent mox of modern music from edm to pop to rock, drinks and food was great priced (due to happy hour), the service was most excellent I ordered 4 drinks and in 10 seconds I had 4 drinks in front of me, the server gave excellent drink recommendations and food recommends (I wanted some buffalo chicken and some garlic fries which he combo'd for me), and the very last thing that I always complain about with local drink serving places, is the condition of the bathrooms; they are usually a mess and quite disgusting to use, and this place had CLEAN bathrooms with actual seat covers and fully functioning closing and locking stalls (you'd be surprised how many places don't have these features). Great place, Mr. Rick! I come to avila to play basketball and swim every week. This will be my new...
