The Brickery is a decent option for lunch in the village, though they could stand some improvement on consistency. The pizzas have good flavor thanks to high-quality toppings, but they fail to compensate for the crust, which is completely devoid of substance (akin to a cracker rather than leavened bread) and overcooked roughly half the time. They're also undersized relative to their price. And speaking of skimpy portions, don't bother with a side of fries either, considering you get less than half of a normal potato's worth and they don't replace the fryer oil as often as they should.
There are still some bright sides here, though, and chief among them are the smash burgers and even more so the buttermilk-battered chicken sandwich. Both are off the charts on quality and far larger than expected at their price points. Just keep in mind that they're not at all dainty fare and it's entirely possible that ou will wear some portion out with you when you leave. They go great with a beer from their diverse and ever-changing selection that has yet to disappoint me even when I opt for something obscure and unfamiliar.
Lastly, their waitstaff is beyond delightful and always going out of their way to make sure you're satisfied, despite the fact that everytime I'm there they seem to have two fewer servers than they should. Overall it's an adequate experience that could be outstanding with some simple menu tweaks and QA fixes in...
Read moreI’m from Philly but live in Mendo and extremely picky when it comes to pizza. Now, although I would classify this pie as Neapolitan… which a Neapolitan isn’t particularly terrible to begin with, usually the only safe bet on the west coast… this is not a run of the mill Neapolitan… this is a GREAT Neapolitan. Almost a hybrid. Incredible ingredients. Margherita has full cheese coverage which is really a game changer on a Neapolitan Margherita. Pie is cooked perfectly... no sogginess. This is my favorite pie on the west coast. Everything is artisanal here. Their own specialty pies are also incredible… I’m usually just a cheese pie kinda guy… but I look forward to trying everything these folks put together. Puts a smile on your face. Legit the only pizza I will eat in Mendocino County. Also… try the bagels out front. I am also picky when it comes to bagels, growing up next door to a Jewish baker… and they nail those too. Bring some home, grab some cream cheese from the store and throw them in the toaster oven. Oh… really great...

We visited The Brickery in Mendocino and shared a Margherita pizza with buffalo mozzarella. Sadly, it was one of the worst pizzas we’ve ever had. The crust and dough were fine – perhaps the best part – but the topping was a major letdown. The mozzarella was barely visible, and the tomato sauce tasted more like plain canned tomatoes than a real sauce. For $22, this was simply unacceptable.
What saves the experience a bit is the lovely setting – the garden is lush and the overall atmosphere cozy. It’s like a hidden gem. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
I wouldn’t recommend it for the food, but perhaps worth a stop for a cup of coffee or a beer on tap in the beautiful...
