Review Alert! Rice by Mama just opened 2/17/2024. Any review older than that is for the previous restaurant, PanAsia. Pan Asia was so much better! The only improvement is that the seats have padding. Giant tvs playing streaming market scenes. You are lined up in a tight row, so when the table next to you is seating or leaving, their butt slides across your table. We waited 10 minutes for them to take our order. After ordering, another 10 minutes went by when our server returned to ask what protein I wanted, which I had stated when I originally gave her my order. Someone else's order is brought to our table and removed. 20 more minutes, and she comes back to say they don't have my dish. It's not available. By now, I'm pretty grossed out and feeling claustrophobic with 3 inches between tables and unable to have a conversation with my date without neighbors interjecting. The server comes back again and asks if I want to order, I say no, no time. More waiting. I step out to make a phone call to cancel an appointment because we are now running late. When I return, they have brought my date's meal and a menu for me. They brought him the wrong meal. Take his dishes. Wait another 10 minutes for his tofu yellow curry, which he requested as a 5 on the 1-5 spicy scale. He said it wasn't even a 1. Decent flavor, no heat. Server plunks a fork in front of me (there's already one there) as if to say I should eat his curry too. I can't eat curry. I just want out of there. They comped our drinks, oh yeah. This place is dead to me after my recent experience. I placed an online take out order before leaving work. I arrived at the restaurant at the time provided and my food was not ready. I was repeatedly told "they were working on it" but after 35 minutes of waiting in person (and over an hour since I placed my order) my food was never ready. People were coming and going but my order was apparently never even prepared. They seemed unconcerned and gave me the refund I requested but I have to wait 3 days to get my $60+ refunded now. The owner was "in the back" but never appeared to offer an apology or explanation. I had ordered from this restaurant several times before and the service is usually at least 10 mins late. but this time it was unreasonable. When you're tired and hungry after a day at work and you've ordered and paid for your food, and never received it and get no apology, it's unacceptable. 1st timer. Local. Been waiting for the Cam location to open after hearing about the Ventura location from friends. It’s right next door to Cronies which can have a very busy loud crowd so your choices are inside or outside. I’m not a huge Thai fan, still figuring out what I like but the drunken noodles were really good and the seafood soup my brother had was EXTREMELY Flavorful! Such strong flavors that I could only take a couple sips. The staff is accommodating - for our large group of 6, they moved outside tables to accommodate and turned on the heater. They even included 18% gratuity in the bill for the group of 6. I will def go back and try the curry - they have red, green, and yellow.
