FUN BIRTHDAY DINNER ! My wife and I were up in Cambria for a one week vacation to celebrate her birthday with close family. We even rented an Airbnb 5 bedroom house ( sleeps 18 ) with a fabulous ocean view. On Saturday ( my wife's birthday ) everyone convened at Linn's Restaurant for my wife's birthday dinner. Our reserved table for a party of 12 was upstairs and things kicked off at 6pm. A server named Manny looked after our table during dinner. BEER ! A pretty average selection...I was happy enough with a Stella Artois. A couple of the guys ordered a Firestone Brewing "Mind Haze" IPA and some of the girls ordered wine. NICE TOUCH ! A couple of serves of complimentary house baked Focaccia with sides of Linn's own Olallieberry Preserve ( jam ) came out within a few minutes...very delicious. First up I ordered the Coconut Encrusted Shrimp Starter ( Asian slaw, Linn's blood orange sweet heat dipping sauce ). This came out pretty fast and tasted fabulous. OUR END OF THE TABLE ! For my entree I ordered Shrimp & Scallop Linguini ( rock shrimp, bay scallops, fresh tomato, basil, white wine cream sauce, parmesan ), my wife chose a Chicken Pot Pie ( breast and thigh meat, carrot, green peas, celery, onion, red bell pepper, chicken gravy ), our daughter selected Linn's Cambria Clam Chowder Soup and our son-in-law went for the Olallieberry Burger ( cracked black pepper, Linn's olallieberry sweet heat sizzling topper, brie, blue cheese, shaved red onion, bacon, arugula, served with steak frites ). Our 2 young grand daughters scored Chicken Tenders. LOTS OF CHATTER ! Everyone was catching on the latest family news while we waited for our mains. My wife's Chicken Pot Pie & Veggies hit the table first followed by our daughter's Clam Chowder Soup. Next up it was my Shrimp & Scallop Linguini and our son-in-law's Olallieberry Burger with Steak Frites. Lastly the little girl's plates of Chicken Tenders & sides of fresh Fruit arrived. TOO HOT ! Initially my wife and I couldn't get near our meals because they were way too hot. Eventually after a cool down period we tucked in....my wife thought her Chicken Pot Pie was very delicious. My huge bowl of Shrimp & Scallop Linguini looked as per the description on the menu. I asked our server Manny for some fresh grated parmigiana which he brought out to me quickly. Everything tasted very creamy but I guess I am used to large shrimp and scallops with this dish.....these ones looked ever so tiny. Our daughter enjoyed her Clam Chowder Soup and her hubby loved his Olallieberry Burger & Steak Frites. I saw a bunch of different meals at the other end of our table and didn't hear any complaints. A few people ordered desserts...we opted for my wife's chocolate birthday cake. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! The candles atop the pretty cake ( made by my wife of course ) were lit and we all sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my lovely wife. WHAT...
Read moreWow, it’s amazing how poor service can taint you ever returning. Someone had recommended Linns restaurant for their pies! Their pie shop closed at 6 but when we saw the restaurant was open to 9 we planned dinner around being at Linns restaurant to have pie for dessert. We got to the restaurant about 8pm last night. While we stood at the sign waiting (10 mins to get seated) Excitement went through us while looking at the retail items, the to go pastry cabinet & seeing all the wonderful coffee options. We had made up our mind we would go there this morning on our way out of town. When an employee finally greeted us After 10mins of waiting at sign to get seated, I immediately said we are going to make this easy on you: we just want to get some pie. He sat us with menus, poured water & said he’d be right back. It was ANOTHER 10-15 minutes to get our order of 1 slice olaliberry pie & a flavored tea in. He asked if we wanted heated & a la mode. Response was YES for heated, NO thank you for a La mode. Another 10-15 minutes pie & tea arrived served “Luke warm” & a La mode. I mentioned we didn’t ask for a La mode, he said don’t worry, we won’t charge you. We finished our pie within 10-12 minutes looking for server to get bill - hadn’t seen any staff since pie got dropped off but we certainly could hear several staff people chattering away behind wall between kitchen & to go counter. I finally saw Stuff member organizing silver silverware although she was not our server. I went and asked her if we could get the bill. And then took about another five minutes. My husband and I just wanted out of there so we decided to pay for cash to make it simple And the bill had our Alamo charge on it. Had to go find the weights to have tell them about it, it wasn’t our waiter so they had to go wait to find the wait and found out. Yes, he was supposed to credit us. I’ve already decided not to tip and give a change. So we gave her gas and waited another five minutes. They were closing, we got out of there at nine so let’s do the math one hour to get a piece of pie. Wonder what it would’ve been for dinner I don’t like writing negative things about businesses but it will be quite awhile before we go back especially with all the other dessert options in Cambria. And to think we passed on the enticing desserts at The Sea Chest just to come to Linns Restaurant for their known pies! So...
