First time diners. My brother and I went specifically for fried smelts.
Light airy batter with proper balance of seasoning without any oily residue typically found with fried foods. Not sure how they are able to do what eludes so many other seafood restaurants but we were so delighted that we sampled sardines, full bodied clams, house dipped onion rings and whole crabs. Probably could have sampled much more which we will absolutely do when we return for another round of deliciousness. Simply outstanding!
As an added benefit one of the onsite owners (Diane sp?) who prepared and cooked all that was being offered along with a lovely cashier/hostess whose name I can’t remember, made us feel welcomed like we were regular neighborhood patrons.
They also have a pretty impressive compact collection of fresh frozen fish (including baccala or salted cod, real old world stuff!), prepared foods, cheeses and even dessert items. We purchased the cod with its preserved salt mostly removed perfect for making a traditional Sicilian stew.
Neighborhood no frills gem worth visiting...
Read moreI recently was recommended Courthouse Seafood by a friend, so I decided to check it out. It is located outside the heart of Cambridge, but in a more residential area. However, when we came it was decently packed and busy, and I can understand why.
The service was pretty quick and efficient, and they were happy to explain to us about any menu changes for the day. They were also happy to explain any of the frozen or premade goods stored in their freezer, which had a large variety of goods available.
The food was great for the price, though nothing outstanding, imo. We got the fish and chips, seafood platter, and clam chowder. I thought the clam chowder was a bit too thick for my liking, almost like oatmeal. The fish and chips was great, though the fries were a bit soggy, but probably because we ordered takeout. For the price, portions are great and overall tasted perfectly fine.
Overall, a great place in the area for cheap seafood eats in the...
Read moreGreat quality seafood. Good fair prices. A local favorite. This place is family owned and operated for decades. After speaking with the owner, it feels like you are eating at loving aunt's house. It's very clean and well lit. And the food is perfectly home made with lots of love in it.
You can always get your fried fish and chips cravings here. As well as fried shrimp. But there are healthier options here as well, like baked and broiled fish and veggies.
We tried all options- the fried fish and chips, the baked white fish with steamed broccoli and the broiled salmon with mixed veggies. And they were all delicious!
What I loved about this place was that all the food was lightly seasoned and not over done with the salt. So you can add as much as you like to your own meal.
The clam chowder soup was also a winner- perfectly rich and creamy but not too heavy.
Everything was just perfect ☺️ I will definitely be...
