Great location, and very well integrated with the food nearby for easy order in. Beer selection is great, always with a wide variety of styles to cater to different tastes. The seating is good and they have high chairs for kids that fit well with the tables, and they have a bathroom with a changing table which is awesome. There's some limited board/card games to play with for free, although they skew older -- nothing for 5yro or younger.
The space looks cool, but it's not great at managing noise levels. If the music is low, and there aren't too many people, it's fine, but sometimes they play the music too loud which makes it hard to chat. They really need some noise absorption panels in here -- atm it's all hard reflective surfaces.
Finally we come to why it's a 1 star. As others have reported, the staff are not friendly. They're grumpy and curt. Maybe they have to deal with the same minor issues everyday with different patrons which makes them jaded and view everyone as children to tolerate until their shift is over. Whatever the reason, it's quite unfortunate. If you order a beer and don't attract their attention otherwise, it's fine.
So we'll be back, but we will try to minimize interaction with anyone who...
Read moreWe went to Lamplighter in Cambridge for their Oktoberfest, and it was such a fantastic experience. There was a $10 cover charge, but we didn’t mind at all because they gave us a free German stein, which was not only a fun touch but also really good quality. The entire space was beautifully decked out in Oktoberfest theme, which added to the festive vibe. They had a great variety of beers on tap. I tried the Honey Wheat, which was crisp and refreshing, and later I had pumpkin ale. My partner went for the Oktoberfest and a sour ale, both of which he really enjoyed as well. We grabbed seats on the patio, which was absolutely perfect for a breezy fall night, made even better with fairy lights strung all around. They also had a small food stall with German classics. We tried the bratwursts—one pork and one chicken—along with a potato salad. Everything was delicious, and the food was very pocket-friendly, around $10 each. The beers were $8 apiece, so between the two of us having two beers each and plenty of food to feel full, our total was only about $70. That’s an excellent deal for Boston or Cambridge prices. All in all, I’d definitely come back here, especially in the fall, because the patio atmosphere...
Read moreAm a dog owner and was surprised to learn there wasn't an entry for the patio. We had to enter from the inside which made me nervous because apparently people are either afraid of Samoyeds, allergic to dogs or not a dog person. The space itself looked like it was was curated from Crate and Barrel, didn't give me brewery vibes. The patio was small and not really dog-friendly. Wasn't a lot room and had to make sure my puppy wasn't near the other table or blocking the walkway. I was a party of 7 and we didn't really have ANY space to sit or stand. Was tucked in the corner which felt so cramped and uncomfortable. The barrels acting as the fence made the space feel even smaller. The patio also need sound dampening. I guess my puppy's infrequent barks was disruptive so we were informed to leave. Have taken him to other breweries without an issue so was very shocked to learn we were kicked out for the barking. I just don't think the space was conducive to pet-owners and their fur babies. Will definitely not...
