The venue itself is nice and appears to be run well. This is more of a critical review of the late-night lineup they have, which was mostly terrible. If I had to title this review, it would be called, "Cumtown and it's consequences."
The MC/first act couldn't stop doing a bad Conan O'Brien impression. No one expects much from the host, so we move onto his wife who is actually one of the better comics. But she is doing some rather forced, aggressive crowdwork and can't stop saying "hell yeah dude" like she's Stavros Halkias. This is followed by several more comics doing "my dick is small" and "I want to KMS" jokes without actually being talented tortured artists like my best friend Nick Mullen. Most of the bits from the comics were a setup, a premise, and no punchline - the premise was the punchline. When no one was laughing, the comics continued to comment on the crowd being bad, as if it's our job as an audience to carry them. One of them commented that he drove 8 hours down to Boston to do a set. His set was, "my dick is small and I'm short."
Guy in the green t-shirt was actually good. Turns out good material and stage presence works!
The venue itself is nice and the tickets are cheap, so that's a plus. Stick to headliners if you're interested...
Read moreNice small venue. First time at any comedy club in Boston. Easy to find and they provide discounted nearby parking in a garage on the website (via ticket validation).
Had the MC comedian, two warm-up acts, followed by the headliner. I'd never heard of any of them but that doesn't matter; I'm reviewing the venue itself. Though they were all very good.
Expect a lot of stairs. Three flights if I recall correctly. Down and down until it opens up into a large room for the venue itself. Chairs nearer the stage and some high top tables toward the back.
But the waitstaff --- they were incredible!! Polite and attentive!! Couldn't have asked for better. Typical cheapy food -- hot dogs, pretzels, chicken bites, etc. Good enough for a really unhealthy dinner, but exactly what you'd expect. But the most surprising part: NO TIPS!!! They refuse tips as they say they pay their staff a living wage so taxes and tips are included in the prices. Honestly, this was really REALLY...
Read moreSo I FINALLY got around to checking out The Comedy Studio in Harvard Square for the 7:30pm Saturday night showcase, and now I have to give myself 20 lashes with a wet noodle for waiting so long. It was DA BEST!! The space is not huge but is fantastic; high ceilings, great seat spacing/not squished, and every seat seemed to have a good view of the stage. The staff were beyond wonderful and the comedians had me doing spit takes! The ability to order from your seat is also clutch, as were the lil tables for your food/drinks :) Can't wait to go back!! GET IN LOSER WE'RE GOING...
