Dined at the new Mikuni in El Dorado last night with family, and it delivered exactly what makes this regional favorite special while adding its own distinct character.

For the uninitiated: Mikuni blends traditional Japanese techniques with creative California influences, creating an experience that satisfies both sushi purists and adventure-seekers. This newest location continues that legacy beautifully.

The space strikes an impressive balance—modern and stylish without feeling pretentious. Their outdoor patio, overlooking natural landscaping, offers a peaceful setting that enhances any dining experience. The central location makes it particularly convenient for pre-movie dining, something our group appreciated.

Our table of six sampled widely: the signature albacore pepperfin (a must-try with its delicate flavor and perfect heat), DMC roll, BBQ tuna, and the crowd-pleasing Simba sushi. We also enjoyed garlic edamame, miso soup, and an assortment of specialty rolls (Bob's, Michi, Train wreck, and Wonder). Each dish showcased Mikuni's commitment to quality ingredients and skillful preparation.

What continues to impress about Mikuni is their consistency without staleness. The quality, creativity, and generous portions make it excellent value for the dining experience you get. Our waitress Cassandra, though new, was as knowledgeable as any seasoned staff member and brought genuine enthusiasm to our table. Despite our entire group being Mikuni veterans with high expectations, she navigated our preferences with ease and added to the overall experience.
