Pretty cool theater. It's always empty and I get entire showings to myself most of the time. The max crowd I usually see is 4-5 people tops in a movie. It's not the theaters fault, but the few people you actually do see (if you see any in a showing, it's rare) are loud and don't stop talking during the entire showing. It happens more often than not and it's pretty annoying. They're 40+ adults too, not even kids. Anyway, even on weekends of blockbuster releases, this place is completely dead with plenty of parking and seating. It seems like no one goes to theaters anymore... Also, there's never lines for anything, you're usually the only person in the lobby and bathrooms. It's a pretty strange experience being one of the few people in the entire building, it gets weirder when you actually see another person once you get used to never seeing anyone. Overall it's a good theater and the employees are nice. They have their own security guard that hangs out in the lobby and hallways. Also, there's never paper towels in the bathroom and you have to dry your hands on your clothes. The popcorn isn't that great either, they put a lot of salt into it for some odd reason. Just like other reviews state.
They need to get 4DX and ScreenX to keep the theater relevant because this location is very outdated, surrounding Regals have all these modern screens and I have to drive an hour to get a better viewing experience. Also the seats are sticky and falling apart. Luckily they're not stadium seats like all the other Regals in the area, but they should maintain them.
One huge issue is they don't have true 70MM IMAX. They have Xenon IMAX or also known as "Lie-MAX". It's a 30 foot screen, digital with two projectors. When true IMAX is 70+ feet screen, dual projectors 70mm film. You're just watching on a larger screen than the regular ones and paying full price as if it's true IMAX. It's not worth the extra money for a larger screen and the seats don't recline. There's only one true IMAX in the Sacramento area unfortunately, but the rest are "Lie-MAX". I heard they're upgrading to a dual lasers Lie-MAX so we'll see what happens. Also, none of their regular projectors are laser, they're also Xenon standard. It seems like they're trying to do the bare minimum as possible to keep this place running, It makes me think that's why they are upgrading their IMAX, because they wouldn't be able to have the screen anymore if they didn't. Their hand is being forced, because this place won't upgrade anything unless...
Read moreMy Name is Shawn, the rest of the name listed is not my last name, I don't know who that is. This is part two of a Movie review in a compare/contrast between two Movie Houses that I frequent often. Both are Regals and as for as this review goes, it is about each of them from my last visits in the last 72 hours, todays date is 03-26-24. If you want to see the contrast from the last two visits, your going to have to look up my review titled for Regal El Dorado Hills, but it was about Delta Shores in Elk Grove and employee Hunter. This review is titled the same and is indeed about Regal El Dorado Hills and Hallie is the employee whom I urchased my ticket. As mentioned in my last review which was my first ever Google Review, My exsiccations from my encounters with any Movie House Employee I experience, they should be Professional, Welcoming and friendly, that's it. if they exceeds those basic skills, well good for them. Hallie of Regal El Dorado Hills is the name of the employee whom I delt with when I got my ticket on Sunday March 24th. this compare/contrast is a little unfair in that Hallie knows me a little better than Hunter, yet according to the standards I stated, that is a great equalizer. On Sunday when I finally made it to the concession counter, Hallie already had my account pulled up that is based on ones phone number. I don't know how she dose it, maybe she has a photographic memory, but she always gets it correct, I know this because I check to see if I get the credits for my purchases each time i go to the Movies. Hallie seemingly knows what Movie I'm there to watch, I imagen because she knows what type of Movies I normally like seeing. She probably uses deductive reasoning to guess what time of showing the movie She inputted that I was there to see and then proceeds to select which seat that she knows I'm going to want to sit in. If my preferred seat is already taken, she always selects the alternative seat she knows I would of chosen. Just as I don't know if Hallie has a Photographic Memory I don't know for sure she is or is not Clairvoyant, but she sure seems like she is. One possible complaint I shared with her efficiency that I shared with her, is she makes the getting of my ticket so easy that I barely have time to say "Hello". In summery, Hunter of Regal Delta Shores could use a little refresher course on Customer Service. Hallie of Regal El Dorado Hills, well she deserves recognition of setting and surpassing any reasonable standards of a very good...
Read moreFor those of you thinking you have an IMAX theater in your area, think again! I recently saw Star Trek: The IMAX Experience and, having been to a real IMAX theater in downtown Sacramento, I can tell you this is no IMAX experience whatsoever! The screen is a little bit larger than a typical screen, but it's nowhere near the massive, massive screen of a true IMAX theater. The sound system is nowhere near as complete or robust as the true IMAX theaters, and in general, I could not tell the difference between what I saw in that "IMAX" converted theater and a movie playing anywhere else with a screen of comparable size.
For your information, IMAX is starting to slowly kill its brand in a foolish attempt to trick people into thinking they're getting the real IMAX experience. The real IMAX experience is immersive; you entire field of view is surrounded by screen: up, down, left, right. The theater is tiered much higher than a converted one, meaning you do NOT see the person in front of you. It's literally just YOU AND THE SCREEN, nothing else.
Walk into a converted theater, like the one that this one has, and tell me that wherever you look, there's screen. Tell me that you do not see the person in front of you. Tell me that your heart and entire body shook and rattled when they did the sound test.
It's a lie, and IMAX should be ahshamed of itself for trying to pull the wool over our eyes. It's too bad Star Trek (and other films that have been converted) are not playing on TRUE IMAX SCREENS, but rather these slightly larger and shinier screens that masquerade as the real thing.
It's a hoax....
