I had the distinct pleasure of having the opportunity to work Cherry Street Creamery when I was in high school. She (the owner, Lea) was always kind and kept high standards for her business that definitely in no small part aids in her staying power. She is wickedly funny, quick-witted, and was a great person to work for. When I reflect on my time there I am filled with positive memories.
Taking a trip down to the towpath with friends new and old is well worth the short trip from Jackson Twp for their signature treat, chocolate almond kustard. If you aren't in-the-know about what's-what in the dessert world, kustard is similar in most ways to what you think of as soft-serve only hand-scooped. The kustard, which comes in one of 4 flavors, is made in-house, batch by batch, in a old-school style machine, carefully adding often unique and always delicious flavors to serve as the rotating flavor of the week. I check their facebook every year and mark my calendar for pistacho week! 😋 In addition to the flavor of the week, there should always be vanilla, chocolate, and chocolate almond available.
Protip✅️ Once the kustard is set, it becomes ice cream. The over-production of the fresh kustard gets hard frozen and is then available on sale in pint containers til gone. Going the week or a few days after the flavor of the week switches, you stand the chance to luck into some really, really good product for cheap.
If you are expecting a swirly poop-emoji machine-formed curling spiral from Dairy Queen, this isn't the place for you. All the sundaes and most of the specialty items are made using the fresh kustard, which again, is hand-scooped. While most of the flavors are homemade, there are a handful of crowd pleasers and unique flavors to choose from as well. There are separate prices for the kustard as opposed to the ice cream, with the ice cream being a little bit more expensive.
Walking the streets and paths around canal fulton in the summertime is always just that much better with a refreshing 'county fair-style' hand-shaken lemonade and some hot food.
Back in the day, you had to walk up to the gas station for cash. This business is cash only, and tips are gratefully accepted by tip jar. In recent years they've made the upgrade of hosting an on-site ATM with a $2.50 service charge.
Behind the building is a seating area with a roof for shelter from the sun or rain while you enjoy your food. If the parking lot looks congested, I suggest parking right across the street at the park and walking up.
This was one of 3 jobs I've had slinging frozen treats. The field is stereotypically a female dominated industry, but when I was there, I always felt respected and that my contributions were valued. That's an all too rare quality for an employer in this day and age. I'm grateful to have had the experience. Thank you, Lea.
Customer for life. 🍒🌭🍨🍋🍫🍒 Try a milkshake with pistachio and pineapple.
1 scoop Chocolate Rainforest 1 scoop Coconut Avalance is heavenly.

Read moreI'd give 5 stars for flavor and speed of service, but only 1 because of unfriendliness toward people who are new.
I really like this place. I really do. But I regret suggesting it to my parents who came to visit from out of town. My mom and dad had my elderly grandmother, who is in her 90s and not mobile at all, with them. No place to park open, so my dad was going to try to stop and let my elderly grandmother out while he went to find a further spot. As soon as he stopped to try to let her out he was immediately jumped on by other customers and a lady from inside the creamery, yelling at him that he couldn't park there. Well obviously knew that. He was just try to let his 96 year old mom out so she could enjoy icecream too. She can't get out of the SUV by herself. But they wouldn't even give him a chance to talk. When he pulled out and drove around to find a spot again after unsuccessfully being able to drop my grandma off, a man, who was aparently also a customer, blocked the entrance and refused to let my dad back in the lot. This left a very bad taste in my dad's mind, feeling humiliated, he drove off angrily. Being sure to let me know how he will never visit this "so called friendly neighborhood creamery." I was embarrassed that he experienced that at a place I recommend as I usually do not recommend places to people. And I'm equally disappointed in the customer pool as well as the actual workers.
Worst Mother's day experience for them ever.
If you are from out of town and not quote familiar with the parking or area, go to Pav's or Scoops. Friendliness is...
Read moreKustard and hard ice cream. If I understand correctly, both are made with the exact same ingredients, just processed differently. Kustard is thicker and softer while hard ice cream is lower temperature and has more air. Kustard is made freshly, so there are only three flavors: chocolate (w or w/o almonds), vanilla, and flavor of the week.
Food options require a 15-20 minute wait, more if there's a back-up, and it closes early.
Note that Cherry Street's "kustard" could also be called "custard-style ice cream" but it is not "custard".."Custard legally requires a certain amount of egg yolk in it, which Cherry Street doesn't have, as far as I know. Häagen-Dazs is the only dairy dessert brand I know of that adds egg yolk to its frozen desserts... and no gums/stabilizers in the basic flavors, which makes it stand apart. "Kustard" with a K appears to be a marketing thing, having a texture similar to egg-yolk custard but not subject to rules governing egg yolks.
Also, Kustard is not "soft serve", which has a lot of air in it and is kept at a higher temperature. So no chocolate-vanilla "twist" exists.
The location is tops, right along the tow path trail and, indeed, plays no small role in making Canal Fulton's section of towpath trail THE highlight of the...
