Hit and Miss. I'm sensitive to dairy products, let me lead with that. The first time we came it was a Saturday night. They were very busy, and we did have long waits. However our server was very nice, and the food was wonderful. I order the sweet potato roll without cream cheese, and it was super. It was just the sweet potato, scallion, rice and seaweed. The 2nd time, I came with coworkers at lunch. Once again I got the sweet potato roll with no cream cheese, and again it was just the potato, scallion, rice, and seaweed. Again it was wonderful, and the turn time at the table was much quicker than on Saturday night. The third time was when things went downhill. We came for lunch, and we had a large group. It seemed like we were putting the server out ( I don't want to mention the gentleman's name), but he came around to get our orders. I ordered the same roll and so did another of my coworkers because they tried mine the last time. They got one with cream cheese, mine was without. Theirs came out to the table first with a sauce on it. We talked about it, maybe it was cream cheese based and why mine did not have it the 2 times prior. However, mine came out with the same sauce. I asked our server about it, asking for one without the creamy white sauce. It's not listed on the menu, and it had never been placed on the roll before. The server got very upset with me. He told me that in the 5 years he's worked there, it's always had the sauce. I was speechless, so the rest of our table told him about our prior visit, sans sauce. The server huffed away, complained about us to another server in front of us. They brought new rolls out, but mine had cream cheese on it. I asked him if I could please have it without. Again, a little stop to complain and then after the rest of the table finished eating, he brings me out the roll and walks away. I've never felt like I was putting someone out so much as I did then. But, the roll had been unrolled and the chef scrapped off the cream cheese, because I could still see the white residue everywhere. I did not eat it. The server brought the bill, let me know he was annoyed that I did not want to pay for it. So, I paid my 2.00 for the fried rice and left. I'm not going to judge the whole place on this poor experience because I understand how working in food service can go. I truly hope that the server's day improved. I will try again, but I will be avoiding this server...
Read moreI usually dine in cause I enjoy the atmosphere & servers they’ve always been so nice to me & welcoming. Today in the rare occasion I decided to order take out through the app. I always order the same thing. Chicken lo mein, pot stickers & a cucumber roll with a side of cream cheese. There’s absolutely NO “add-ons” section for things like cream cheese, extra wasabi. You have to write it in the requests section. Well, when I arrived I was told by a new manager, I know this person is fairly new because no one at Basil has ever spoken to me the way she did, told me I needed to add cream cheese under the “add-ons” section. I went back to my car & looked for this section wondering if I had been ordering it incorrectly. No, there is no such section in on the ordering website. So I went back in, because maybe it’s under something else, to ask that manager where it is exactly because what she was saying was incorrect. I was told I would have to speak to a different manager about that. I met a lovely manager name Madeline. I’ve had Madeline a few times as my server. I’m happy she was promoted. She apologized to me & looked it up herself. She couldn’t find the option this other manager was speaking of & had to profusely apologize to me so did the hostess that had to unfortunately witness how this other manager spoke to me. She’s incredibly rude about it. Over 15 cents worth of cream cheese? That you can’t even directly order? Her response was extremely rude & it honestly doesn’t make me really want to come back after that. I’ve been coming to Basil religiously since I moved to canton in June 2020 but I think I may have to find a different restaurant to...
Read moreJune 24: another successful lunch experience. We tried different dished, but they were just as tasty and service was good, efficient, and quick.
Looking for a lunch place after visiting the near-by McKinley Monument, we found this on Google Maps and it looked intriguing. Good move to come here! Even though it was a Wednesday midday, there was ample street parking available and plenty of available seating. I was with a group of vegetarians so we all went for vegetarian entrees. They offer you a selection of proteins so this was not a problem for the restaurant, but if you prefer meat, they can do that too.
Many of the dishes on the menu were ones we had not seen anywhere else. We ordered a couple of those (Thai Spaghetti? Walnut Sauce?)
Every dish that we ordered was absolutely beautiful to behold (check out the photos) and tasted just as good as it looked. We shared all of them amongst the four of us and wished we had bigger stomachs or appetites so that we could have tried more things!
Service was also first rate with a server who was very patient and explained everything to us as well as checked back frequently to make sure we got everything we wanted / needed. Prices are very reasonable.
We also noted the bar and the nice selection of wines they had. Some of which are quite exciting and priced extremely reasonably. If we had come for dinner, I am sure that one of those bottles would have made its way to our table.
Should our future travels bring us back to Canton, this will definitely be on the list of places to...
