I’m a server at another Mexican Restaurant in Canton so I don’t want to come off as an A**hole writing this review. The purpose of this review is to help La Parilla as a company to be aware of unfriendliness towards customers.... That being said, I came in today with my girlfriend and sister for my 21st birthday. Since our go to restaurant was closed today we couldn’t decide whether come here or go to Taco Mac that was next door. We decided to try La Parilla for the first time. I ordered my drink and it was a really good margarita; however, when I ordered, our server and about two other servers stood around in the bar area laughing histerically. One of them lightly punched one guy on the shoulder so that he could stop laughing, because he was making it obvious that the laughter was directed towards us. We knew they were laughing at us, but didn’t understand what for. Was it because we looked too young to sit at the bar? Was it because my girlfriend and sister only ordered a water to drink? We never did anything wrong being there. Regardless of the motive behind their laughing, I felt it was unprofessional and that they should reflect back on their actions. I could see that they were giving everyone else at the restaurant great service and I admire that, but towards us they disrespected us and made us feel less than everyone else. I know we looked young and broke, but we always tip more than 25%. Even though they ruined my birthday and made us feel worthless, I still gave our server more than 25% on gratuity, because I’m also a waiter and I know better than to not tip. She never greeted us or wished us a good night during our visit. We had heard great reviews on the restaurant and we were excited to try something new today. It’s unfortunate that we were only there for...
Read moreWe've visited this restaurant three times now in the last couple of months. Being retired, we are able to arrive a little before 5 PM, so we've never had an issue being seated. Our host/hostess has always been friendly. The restaurant is clean, bright, open and airy - there's plenty of room between tables, etc. In three visits, we've had two different servers - Andy and Mateo - both of whom were very cordial, attentive, and professional. Being from LA (as in Lower Alabama), I didn't grow up eating Mexican food, but having lived in SoCal for many years, I do know what I like and Mexican cuisine is probably my favorite ethnic food. The food here is very good - at least to me. I've tried a couple of different dishes and I can say the wrap is tasty and dinner combination #23 is very good. Nothing I've tried it overly spicy, which may disappoint some. Portions are ample. My wife is gluten free and they have no problem making the quesadilla with corn tortillas for her. Regarding the salsa, I totally get the posted comment about it being a little too much like ketchup and I agree - but I don't like cilantro, so I barely dip the chips in it. BTW, the portion of free chips offered is a bit smaller than most restaurants, so it's hard to fill up before the main course. I would not say the menu is limited, but it does seem to offer fewer items than other restaurants we've visited. I've not yet tried their margaritas. Bottom line: while this is not our #1 Mexican restaurant in the area, it certainly is our second favorite. I have no problem...
Read moreI was sat with a large party that had come straight from a funeral. It was during the middle of the week around 5:40 and only a few other tables were present. A few of us had to go to straight to work at the local hospital that night and made that very clear. After about 15 minutes of no server appearing, not even to take drinks, one of us talked to the hostess who was very apologetic and said she would send the server over. A couple of minutes later a very annoyed waitress came over and said they don’t serve the table until all of the party arrives. We again stated that some of us had to leave for work soon and also, everyone was thirsty. Drink orders were placed and the food orders were placed for those who had to leave. Drinks came 5-10 minutes later, half of them missing. I was one of those who had to leave for work and NEVER saw the waitress again after a total of 40 minutes here. One of my sweet coworkers who was off that night had to bring me my food. The attitude of this server and other negative interactions (such as someone sitting at the bar while waiting for a to go order being forced to leave even though only two other customers were at it) have put me off from ever coming to this restaurant or ordering from it again. My unit often orders food and none of us will ever order from here again. We will happily pay delivery fees to get Mexican food...
