Pete's Restaurant — Restaurant in Canton

First time here. Based on reviews I was confident it would be good. Sadly NOT the case. I will start with the positives. No wait for a table. Very friendly staff. Our waitress was very nice eager to explain the menu to us as it was our first time. She was consistent in refilling our beverages. My husband ordered one of the specials, Italian sausage with peppers, onions, marinara. French fries as a side. He was very satisfied with his meal everything was hot and tasted good. Now the BAD. I ordered a "seasonal" special, chicken pot pie. Was told it would take 15 minutes. Ok. Got a salad, which consisted of iceberg lettuce, one cucumber slice, and a very tiny wedge of tomato. Dinner rolls. My pot pie arrives. Nice size, golden brown crust. Good start. Dip in, typical creamy sauce with mixed vegetables. There was only one thing missing. CHICKEN. I found exactly one minute cube of meat. when the waitress came over to inquire how we were doing I told her I was searching for the chicken in my chicken pot pie. She said I'm going to kill them back there. I continued looking through the sauce and vain. next the gentleman who may or may not be the owner or manager walked over and asked how we were doing. I said I was looking for the chicken in my chicken pot pie. He said oh you just started it's down there. Well it wasn't. He never came back to inquire if I ever found any. Neither he nor the waitress offered to bring me chicken, comp my meal, or a dessert. Absolutely nothing. No apology. as it is not likely I will be in that vicinity very often as it is an hour from home I don't have to worry about going there again. But if I am in that area I will certainly not visit that...

After looking at the reviews here, my wife and I decided to have a little brunch date. Being early on a Wednesday morning the crowd was mostly older. We were promptly seated. Very clean inside, some great black and white pictures all over, wonderful colors. The waitress was great at making recommendations, looked like she enjoyed working there, and was very attentive.

The food came very quickly. I had the country fried steak, which instead of regular white gravy like normal, it had sausage gravy, YUMMY. The potatoes were different but wonderful, and the eggs cooked to perfection. I had rye bread with it and it was the best rye bread I have ever had.

My wife had the french toast with bacon. She said it was delicious and it is her favorite food.

We will definitely be returning to try lunch and dinner. My only complaint is that the coffee was not very good.

I think the thing that set this place apart from others is that the owner of the place, Pete, was actually cashing folks out and walking around to the tables, greeting people by name, bantering back and forth. When we went to pay he asked our names and was very friendly. He was excited about how he does his sausage gravy on the CFS and some of his other dishes, seems to take a lot of pride in his food.

We had a bad experience this time in. Our food took a really long time to get there, and when it did come, they took it to the wrong table. When they finally brought it to us, we had no silverware, no syrup for our pancakes, no toast that came with the order. We finally got silverware but our food was cold. They finally, half way through the meal brought my toast and it was burnt so I asked for that to be fixed only to receive it after we were done eating and I asked for it twice. I still give Pete's 5 stars because it is one of my favorite family places to eat and I understand that there are times things happen and people get busy. Pete was very understanding and gave us half off our meal due to all that happened. I did let him know, that just because this happened today will by no means stop us from coming back and that while what happened was not okay, I did understand they got busy and people make mistakes. None of us are perfect in this world, and no restaurant ever is without flaws or errors from time to time. I appreciate Pete and his family and we love them dearly and appreciate them making this right! I highly recommend this place to everyone. They do have great customer service and the food...
