Emilie and the Frenchies — Restaurant in Capitola

Dumbfounded.

As visitors to the area we really wanted to try a local spot but were disappointed to end up at a Starbucks after this place couldn’t seem to make a few drinks correctly and timely.

Our small group came in and placed our order. Midway through ordering, the barista running the register stopped ringing us up, pulled out her phone and used it for several minutes, then said “sorry about that” and put it back like it never happened.

As we waited, we were asked to “remind” them about what we wanted, including sizes and flavors, repeatedly. I guess they thought it was easier to shout at us across the restaurant than check the order they put into their register.

Our first drink was called about 20 minutes after ordering, and wasn’t something we ordered. Then our first ACTUAL drink was called and I grabbed it and took a sip: not even remotely close to the drink I ordered.

At 25 minutes waiting (with only two other couples in the store) we grew impatient and asked for (and received) a refund. I’d like to note that the woman running the register in that moment was helpful, while the two baristas hid in the back.

We definitely got the impression that this business is new, and has used friends to pad their reviews as they’re getting started, because this is not a five-star business by any stretch of the imagination. Hopefully they’ll find their stride (and some...

We visited this cafe after reading many positive reviews but left a bit puzzled by the high ratings. The food and coffee were just okay, not something you’d find at a French-inspired café. The lattes were messy, and while the sandwiches were fine, we’ve had better bread elsewhere. The staff was friendly, but overall the quality didn’t quite match the reviews. There are several nearby spots that offer much better food and coffee, including Companion, Gayle’s, Pacific Coffee Roasters, and The Farm. We won't be back but do...

This place exceeded all my expectations. Everything we ate was so delicious, fresh and wonderfully balanced. The latte's were yummy. They also were extremely kind to my dog and gave him a slice of ham and a bowl of water. I've been to very expensive restaurants that wouldn't even bother to offer water to my dog and haven't even come close to the level of service and taste that this little cafe somehow managed.

I highly recommend trying it out, this is definitely my new favorite place...
