Exceeded expectations! Stopped in on a Sunday morning around 11am driving from Aspen to Denver. Fairly busy, but the estimated 30 minute wait was only 15 min. We were seated at a table just on the edge of the open dining area. Shaded from the sun, but able to enjoy the nice day and a breeze while we ate. Ordered the build your own omelette w/ turkey, bacon, ham, chicken & cheese. Is is possible to put too much meat in an omelette? If there was such a thing, Smithy did it, but who's complaining? Man sized portion for sure! Omelette was cooked nicely and was served with choice of toast and hash browns. The hash browns were a little under cooked for my taste, but easy enough to ask for a little more crispy next time. The raspberry jam on the table took this meal over the edge. After a so-so weekend in Aspen with the typical over priced and under whelming ski town food / service this great experience capped our vacation on a high note. Also great job by our sever Ali who was a pleasant mix of prompt, friendly, helpful and just enough casual conversation to make us feel welcome without being intrusive of our meal. We'll be sure to stop in next time we...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOver the years Iāve visited friends here in Carbondale. Without fail Iāve always made sure to stop in at the Village Smithy. The food is and has always been superb. Usually things feel very inviting. Today was different. I walk in and the hostess/waitress says nothing. I start walking to the dining area and ask if itās alright I got a table. The lady didnāt seem to be having it as she got a menu and escorted me. She tried to sit me on a high table and I said no thanks. I then walk to a table and she acts as though itās a huge deal. āIām confused because Iām the one whoās supposed to be sitting you!ā š³ I then sit there and no one greets me at my table, mind you the place is empty. I ask a waitress and she said āwell I was going to serve you but you moved tablesā and walks away. I said āI just want a coffeeā and she annoyingly gets it for me. I donāt know what was going on this morning but the staff was not their usual selves. I post this because I love dining here and hate to see a good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am a long time local and have been coming to the Smithy ever since it opened. My husband and I were celebrating our 30th anniversary today at the Smithy and it was 34 years ago today (Oct 30)that we had our first date there. We had an absolutely terrible table by the kitchen and bar, noisy and a lot of traffic! I asked to be moved but since we had ordered was told we could not. All we had on the table was 2 glasses of juice and there were at least 6 tables I observed if not more, empty tables. I thought customers came first and Iām sure our waiter could have brought our food to another table. The food was not as good as previous years or maybe just seemed not by the unpleasant experience. We will not be celebrating anymore anniversaries there. It had become a ritual since 1989, but this definitely changed that. Had there been no other convenient tables I could understand. Sorry to say this as we have always had a pleasant experience and great food...
