We used Redd's Smokehouse to cater our wedding on labor day. In short, it was absolutely amazing! Brent did a fantastic job in making sure that everything was on time, to our specifications, and provided food with incredible flavor. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who needs a party catered and is looking for someone reliable to do it. Thanks for everything Brent!
The longer version:
My wife and I are vegetarians. However, this is one place where we throw that out the window on special occasions. We absolutely love this restaurant! I have tried many other barbecue and smoke houses in the area, but no one has compared to Redd's. So, if this restaurant can make a vegetarian into a meat loving carnivore, don't you think it's worth a try?
Brent was so easy to deal with throughout the whole process. We had to change the date and time because of covid. He rolled with it like it was an everyday thing. My wife and I were actually so surprised at the lack of stress with the caterer, that we thought something might be wrong. Needless to say, he just made it a stress-free process somehow. We really didn't have anything to worry about, and it was so weird for us. With everything else we had to make sure we told people exactly what we wanted. Not having to do that for the cater was so freeing. For anybody that's actually planned a wedding, that's a huge plus.
For catering purposes, I will never go anywhere else. I did not hear one complaint from any guests at our wedding. People were calling and asking me afterwards what the name of the place was. Rarely, have I ever been to a wedding where people are raving about the food. It's always some type of chicken with green beans almondine. We wanted something that was not traditional. This Smokehouse fit the bill perfectly. There was plenty of food, everything was cooked to perfection, and Brent took care of everything that we needed. I could not have asked for better service. So, if you're looking for a summertime party, a family get-together, graduation party, or you just want to have some outstanding food, go to Redd's Smokehouse. You won't be...
Read moreRedd's Smokehouse is the choice for BBQ in the Carlisle, Pennsylvania area. This place is always busy and most tables are full so you might need to wait around for a table. I'm all about good BBQ. I try to hit any type of BBQ Joints mostly for smoked meats such as brisket, ribs, & pulled pork. Redd's has the best Pulled Pork out of 30 BBQ places that I have ate and many people rave about the pulled pork. The chicken is tender & mouth watering good. However, the brisket needs more smoke flavor and almost tastes like roast beef. Smoking the brisket for a few more hours under heavy smoke would probably do justice and turn out tasty. I ate the brisket a few times and it's not a top choice on their menu. The ribs aren't anything to rave about and Redd's should probably start buying ribs from a different source which could make all the difference or maybe Redd's need a different approach on cooking their ribs. If you're a BBQ Rib lover like I am, you might be disappointed. If you want good ribs and don't mind driving to eat great BBQ then check out Mission BBQ in York, Pennsylvania; the ribs there are to die for they are that darn good. Anyway, the wife & I drive 90 minutes just to eat at Redd's Smokehouse for their pulled pork & chicken. Don't expect a nice restaurant inside because this place is very out dated and it needs an overhaul but just grab a table and try it out. I suggest you try a sampler platter of three meats for your first visit. Hopefully they move to a bigger location or invest in updating the floors and wobbly tables. They do offer carry...
Read moreRedd’s Smokehouse BBQ delivers a solid, satisfying BBQ experience in a casual and friendly setting. The meat is clearly the star of the show, tender, smoky, and full of flavor. The brisket was especially noteworthy, with a beautiful bark and just the right amount of fat.
Their house made sauces offer a nice variety depending on your taste: sweet, tangy, or spicy, and all pair well with the meats. Sides were mostly hits. The baked beans had a deep, smoky flavor. The corn was well cooked and seasoned nicely, and the rice was a simple but good addition.
One small disappointment: we asked for cornbread with both orders and were given a dinner roll instead. Not a huge deal, but when you’re looking forward to good cornbread with BBQ, it’s a letdown.
I placed the order online for pickup, and while the woman at the front counter was friendly and welcoming, the kitchen staff didn’t exactly seem thrilled when I arrived. When she let them know I was there for pickup, one of the cooks smirked and said “Wow” in a way that made it feel like I was an inconvenience. It came across like he didn’t enjoy being there, which was a bit off-putting.
Service at the counter was otherwise smooth and quick. The atmosphere is casual and inviting with that warm Southern smokehouse charm.
Prices are reasonable for the portion sizes. Overall, a great place to get your BBQ fix in Pennsylvania. Would definitely return, especially for that brisket, but hoping next time the staff's attitude is better and the...
