My Daddy's Bar-B-Que — Restaurant in Carlsbad

I've traveled north, south, east, and west, and all throughout I've had good BBQ and bad BBQ. This place just happened to be the worst BBQ. On the positive side, the guy taking our order was friendly and a conversationalist. Ordered the 3 meat combo (brisket, pulled pork and sausage). It was literally floating in greasy oil. Disgusting! Brisket on top was dried out. Everything underneath was saturated with oil and inedible. No smokey flavor. Sausage was 4 thin slices cut across a link. Pork was very fatty. The roll was cold with no butter. Cole slaw obviously came out of a 5 gallon tub. Baked beans were from a can. Only 1 sauce on table and it was thin and bland. Even the beer was not enjoyable because he served the Corona with no lime. Glad I was just passing through because I won't go...

These folks are probably some of the nicest folks running a restaurant in Carlsbad, but for me, good service is only 1/3 of my score. The other 2/3 is food related. If you haven't had Texas BBQ you can go and enjoy this for sure, but if you're looking for Texas BBQ away from Texas, don't go, it'll just make you that much more home sick. It's not a lost cause, I really think if they'd consider traveling to Texas to a cook off and learning some more technique, they could be the best BBQ for 100 miles! The bbq here honestly looks and has a texture like it was cooking in a crock pot after being smoked, which seemed to draw the moisture out of the brisket. I'm really hoping by the time I'm back in Carlsbad, they might have made some improvements, because they really are...

If I could give this place a ZERO star I would. Got 3 meats & 2 sides with a dinner roll in a to-go container for like $23 … it looked like I ordered 1 meat there was hardly anything in the container. It looked like a cafeteria plate, just pathetic. The service was rude, they got my meal together within a minute because it was all pre-paid garbage. I wanted money back but it was so awkward, I told the lady “is this it? I thought there was more seeing how I ordered 3 meats.” She goes “yeah, it’s all in there. Ugh!
