Nonna Rosa Trattoria Pizzeria — Restaurant in Carlstadt

I'm so glad I found this hidden gem in a small strip mall that practically is empty on both sides! The pizza is amazing... my 6 year old loves to go here and is usually very picky about pizza, but she eats everything including the crust (she hates crusts on anything). I've ventured off from the pizza and must say that it came as no surprise that the quality of food was also amazing and the portion size is extremely generous! Every time I've gone I've had to stop myself from over eating and still had enough for at least 2 more meals. The bread is made in house and always fresh and tastes amazing. I could go on for years about the food here!! The atmosphere at Nonna Rosa's is also outstanding. Whether it's your first time there or 100th you are greeted with warmth as if your family. My daughter loves coming here after dance and looks forward to seeing if her buddies Alessio and Giovanni are there. 99% of the time one if not both are there... even if they aren't working and the attention they pay her is heartwarming. I'm told the space next to them is being turned into a large dining area for a nice sit down dinner space. And I must say how much I can't wait for that!!! The food is amazing and I'm sure they will be extremely successful! Opening a new larger section is going to be able to help people discover they are more than just amazing pizza!!! I've personally had the eggplant and chicken parm dinners and heros, creamy pesto gnocchi and tortellini with grilled shrimp and most recently the lasagna (and honestly I'm now 100% going to have issues deciding on what to get... that's how good it was!). Another dance mom has come with us and got a burger and sweet potato fries and said it was one of the best burgers she's had in a very long time... like the burger bun was made in house!!! I tried a fry and it was really fresh and tasted great... crunchy on the outside and study on the inside... usually sweet fruits are always mushy. So it was great!! My daughter usually gets pizza on late dance nights but has made Friday nights the mandatory spaghetti night so that we can actually sit and enjoy the food...

The gnocchi pesto tasted like there was barely any basil in it. It was pure cream sauce, it was literally white. For the carbonara the eggs were so over cooked that it was like there was scrambled eggs in the pasta. We were looking forward to this order because of the reviews and the menu but we were honestly disappointed and it wasn’t cheap. The delivery was also like an hour late. Wouldn’t recommend.

To the owners response, which was unprofessional and defensive to say the least, I understand that there are meant to be eggs in carbonara, I saw this on the menu and my mother was Italian, I wanted an authentic Italian dish to honor her recent passing. I wasn’t expecting creamy, I was expecting the egg to not be over cooked. For the pesto, on the menu you have listed it did not say cream sauce, it said pesto gnocchi. I made no mistake in expecting a pesto sauce. Perhaps there is a mistake in the menu. I am sure a lot of love goes into your business and that’s where the emotional response comes from but you can not become offensive because you can not handle an honest review. A professional business owner would offer some type of resolution, not a slew of insults hidden behind fake concern for a customers dissatisfaction. If you don’t want customers ordering online, don’t contract with online ordering services maybe? I am sincerely sorry to hear that COVID has gotten into your home and wish you all a speedy recovery and success in your business. OMG this place is amazing, my first day eating there was 2 days ago and I am hooked. Their pizza sauce is to die for. Yesterday I had chicken parm and asked for alfredo sauce on my pasta Mamma Mia! The pictures speak for themselves.. Their servings are generous. It's like eating at your italian house. Today I finished what I brought home which was more than half, had it for lunch. Tonight I ordered the drunken chicken hot sub, man it's delicious, breaded chicken with mozzarella and pink vodka sauce, i am in heaven. Of course huge sandwich which I could only finish half, got more than my money's worth, best thing is that they make everything fresh you can taste it, they breaded the chicken themselves. i come from a family of restaurant owners and know good fresh food when I eat it.
