First off, Esther was excellent making my sister, baby and I feel so welcome. When we first arrived (around 12:50pm) on a Thursday, there were no other guests, so we were worried that maybe we chose the wrong place, but the atmosphere was quiet and Esther tended to us like guests of honor.
We ordered the seafood and noodle hotpot with the short ribs & a seafood pancake - all of which came out quickly and tasted delicious. Everything was so fresh! She refilled our side dishes of kimchi, pickled cucumber, spicy jalapeños, eggplant, and fish cake as needed without being asked and even brought out a side dish of mung bean cake that they usually serve for dinner for us to try. Even the steamed rice was delicious! We ate to our heart’s content and my baby slept through the whole lunch to the k-pop tunes playing in the background. She offered us to go boxes and even a drink to go, but we declined bc we weren’t going straight home. Overall, a delightful experience for a first time and I’m already looking forward to visiting again with my husband since he dislikes crowds. (It’s helpful with the baby too… but I could swear I’ve seen this parking lot packed out at night!) I’m sure he’ll appreciate Esther & her charm. I even heard her offer a side of kimchi to a delivery driver picking up a to-go order - so kind!
Can I also say that I judge a place by their water and when she served it to us, she claimed it was the best iced water in Dallas and ya know what - it WAS phenomenal. I can’t stand being served tap water or room temp water. And even though she was joking, I just wanted to note that I appreciate a good glass of water that actually tastes good. So kudos for that. 👍🏽 they do serve other beverages and some alcoholic drinks too, if you’re into that.
Would recommend! Would return again!! Thank...
Read moreAfter seeing a lot of excellent reviews about Gold Spoon on Instagram and Facebook, we decided to check the restaurant. We dined in on a Monday night and there were multiple tables of guests. Esther, one of the servers, was quick to greet and seat us. Right off the bat, she was warm, welcoming, and had a great sense of humor. She started us off with "the best water" and set out all the banchan (side dishes).
We ordered the jokbal (braised pork trotters served with lettuce for wrapping) and haemul pajeon (seafood and chive pancake). The food was excellent and lived up to all the hype. I'm a huge fan of jokbal and bossam. I've also had jokbal that was poorly cooked and overly dry. Gold Spoon's jokbal was everything you want in excellent jokbal: great flavor, soft and rich gelatinous layers of pork skin, and well-seasoned, moist tender meat.
My wife orders seafood pancake at every Korean restaurant she goes to. She keeps a note on her phone rating each Korean restaurant's seafood pancake. Gold Spoon's pancake had a great outer crispy crust, and excellent ingredients to dough ratio. The dipping sauce that came with the seafood pancake was saltier than what we're used to but very tasty!
The MVP of the entire experience was definitely Esther. She was constantly moving around the restaurant checking in on guests, and making sure that everyone had ample water and side dishes. We felt so welcomed by her and she made it feel like we were dining at a beloved family friend's home. We will definitely be back!! And next time, we're bringing friends to order MORE...
Read moreThis hidden gem was off the chain! From the super friendly staff to great food, you will not be disappointed. They have great selections from the menu to choose from, but what I wanted initially, the pollock roe soup, was sold out! As I could tell it was a hot item, I settled on the oyster tofu soup and a chive pancake. What I didn't expect was the number of sides that came with the meal. I'm used to there being a small number of sides but they had so many, I engorged on all the sides and didn't make much room for my main meal! All the sides, super delicious! From the kimchi, tofu and bean sprouts, to name a few, there was nothing sort of food heaven on the table. Once my soup did come, it was delicious! Now, I was hoping it would have been spicy, but there wasn't any heat. Still quite flavorful, but will have to ask for hot sauce next time to add into the soup. The scallion pancake was huge! I tried a small piece and that was good too. When eaten on its own, it was bland, but when eaten with the dipping sauce, it made for a perfect bite. At the end of the meal, the staff came and provided a cinnamon punch which was super delicious! This by far was my favorite part of the meal and the best surprise. The drink itself wasn't sweet but it was the perfect dessert to end a meal. Plus, it was super fresh and drinking that punch only brought a smile to my face. As I enjoyed my food, I ended up getting many things to go, which were excellent! If you're in the neighborhood, please come by here and give it a try. Great food, great ambiance and...
