I’m typically not a fan of à la carte hot pot since I don’t think it’s worth the price. I decided to check this place out because my sister had been hyping it up for months. She usually goes to the Richardson location, but since we were in the area, we decided to try the Carrollton one.
They’re currently running a $20 AYCE special, which is the main reason I stopped by. Please note that the $20 is per person and does not include broth, vegetables, or sides. It only covers four types of meat: pork belly, beef, lamb, and fish.
The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived since it was only 3 PM on a Friday. We were seated right away, and the server explained the deal to us. I haven’t been to Shoo Loong Kan, but my sister mentioned that the Richardson location offers bibs at the table before seating. Since I was wearing white, we asked the server for one, but she said they didn’t have any.
The broth, veggies, and meat came out quickly. I tried all the broths, and the only one that stood out was the golden chicken (I think that’s the name?). The spicy mala soup was extremely oily, and the tom yum lacked flavor.
The meat quality was good, but my sister said the slices were thicker than those at the Richardson location, which made them harder to chew quickly. Maybe that’s how they balance out the AYCE deal. The veggies and sides were just okay, nothing special. It honestly pained me to pay $15 for a plate of vegetables, but now I know.
Service was fast, likely because there were only three occupied tables. There was a small issue with a fly landing on our meat and refusing to leave, but the waitress replaced the plate of meat right away.
When it was time to pay, they didn’t offer any dessert. The Richardson location gives out mini ice cream cups, but this one didn’t have any. The only dessert option was mung bean soup, which we’re not big fans of.
Overall, I wouldn’t come back, especially for the price. I can satisfy my hot pot cravings at Seapot during weekday lunch for $20, versus spending over $150 for three people here with the promotion. The broth, which is supposed to be their main selling point, wasn’t anything special either. I’m glad I tried it during the promotion, because I would’ve been very disappointed paying $10–$20 per plate of meat at full price. It’s not bad, just not worth all the...
Read moreUpdated July 24th ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We visited Shoo Loong Kan Carrollton and had a great experience! The restaurant is clean, the staff is attentive, and the hot pot flavors—especially the Tom Yum and pork bone soup—are delicious.
They offer a 20% discount for members every Tuesday and Wednesday, which is definitely the best time to go if you're in a group. We went on a member day with 6 people, and for around $250 total (including tip), we got plenty of meat, veggies, and noodles—everything included. It was totally worth it!
On the other hand, the lunch special for $20 per person sounds like a good deal, but it’s more limited. For 4 people, it cost about $80 just for the base, and only included 4 types of meat (one of them was basa fish). With tip, the total came out to about $250 as well, but we got much less food compared to member day.
So if you're planning to come with a group—come on a member day for the best value and more variety!
July 4th: Tried the new Shoo Long Kan in Carrollton and was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is super clean and everything feels fresh and well-organized. We went during lunch and there was no wait at all, which was great. They offer a $20 lunch special per person that includes unlimited meat—such a good deal! Just note that the hot pot base, veggies, noodles, and other items are charged separately.
We tried three soup bases: the Tom Yum was slightly sour and very flavorful, the Pork Bone broth was light and refreshing, and the House Special was tasty but very spicy—definitely ask for it less spicy if you don’t have a high spice tolerance. Overall, the food was delicious and the experience was smooth and enjoyable. Great spot for...
Read moreFood poisoning alert! ‼️ Sigh. I love SLK, I’ve been to the Richardson location about five times. Carrollton is much closer to me so I took my friends here. Left picture is Carrollton. Right picture is Richardson. Same exact broths chosen. Do you see the color difference in the spicy and the pork bone broth? The broth here was so bitter😮💨😵 and tasted like bitter water. They kept turning down the boiling level… is that why I got sick? I threw up everything and my friend had diarrhea all night long too. Also they didn’t have most of the cooked dishes, any milky tea drinks, missing half the amount of things from the salad bar while charging the same price, and no dessert offered. The restaurant was hot and uncomfortable. This is a chain and both locations are new! I have no idea why one tastes 0/10 and the other is a 10/10. How does this place have any good reviews??? The pork broth is so good at Richardson I just boil noodles in there and eat them and I like to just go for that.
The broth at the Carrollton location is really really terrible, the broth is my fav part of SLk and I was utterly utterly...
