This entire store is prioritizing “Profit Maximization” over “customer service and experience”
Went today to check it out. Food is was decent. But price is high. They charge you more for dinner. They have all this space it was empty people were lining up, including elderly. It feels like they are literally TRYING to kick you out as fast as possible in the nicest way possible. How can you possibly relax in such passive aggressive environment? And soondubu is $13 plus tax which is quite high. Food prices are extremely cheap in Texas at cost. Soup doesn’t cost much to make. I assume the rent is high though.
It’s not a dine in experience mainly because they were passively pressuring you to eat fast and leave (while half of the entire restaurant was empty). Felt more like Chipotle casual fast food, but you gotta tip and the food isn’t cheap for soondubu standards. I’ve had soondubu philly and nyc. This place was charging nyc prices. However I must admit their baanchan (side dishes) were good.
It would be okay if they were less busy but they purposely kept half of their tables closed (most likely to pressure customers to leave faster to maximize profit. It’s a common technique for popular franchise restaurants like this).
I went with my parents each had soondubu and a tofu salad. Soondubu was decent. Best I’ve had yet around old and new Korea towns in Dallas. Salad was subpar. Sesame sauce was watery (they didn’t drain the water) and veggie portion was small. However Tofu was good quality both in the soup and salad. Final check was almost $67 including tip for lunch for three. Not bad but I’m not sure if the experience and food as a whole was worth the price tag considering the passive-aggressive pressure to vacate our seats.
They might be doing well now cuz people are curious to try out BCD. I don’t ever want to be rushed out at a restaurant and this is the very first in Texas I felt this type of passive aggression. Servers were nice but Not a good first impression. Since older Korean ladies work there I don’t think they would tend to foreign customers as well for many reasons.
Edit: I haven't been their since opening and had this horrible experience. I might give them another try. I'll...
Read moreI went there yesterday to dine and invited some friends along who hadn’t been there before. I was a regular since it opened and had been a returning customer over the year because of the great service and food we experienced in the earlier days. We have taken family and friends there in the past who had returned themselves after a pleasant experience so we had always been raving about this place to other people who haven’t been.
Yesterday, I couldn’t be more disappointed by their service and food and never would I go there again or recommend to anyone I know.
The food came out in bits and pieces so some people had food and others didn’t for more than 15 -20 minutes, kids food came out almost last 20 minutes after adult food was out (anyone with kids or any decent restaurant would know how bad that is!) and for same dishes we ordered (like LA galbi) one came out early and the other came out 20 minutes later after I had followed up multiple times. Their new menu of nangmyun (cold noodles) had a fowl aftertaste and i just could not eat it. There’s so many more little things like forgetting to provide straws for kids water and putting cutlery anywhere on the table instead of to where each of us are seated.
Above all the problems with food and how they had come out, the biggest problem I had was the attitude and service of the staff.
The waitstaff service was worst I had seen in my many many visits there with lame excuses for their food coming out late and very unapologetic in their behaviour. Despite our group getting up and obviously leaving after the meal, not a single staff greeted us on our way out, choosing to ignore us even though we looked around to say bye as we were leaving, and even though I wanted to give them some genuine feedback about their food and service, they gave me no chance as they had zero interest in it.
I am so disappointed after having been a regular all this time and having recommended the place to many people. The place has definitely changed and is no longer what it used to be. The staff are no longer the friendly and helpful staff who used to be around and the food has dropped in...
Read moreWe used to dine in this BCD Tofu House (in Carrollton Town Square - 1050 E Trinity Mills Rd, Carrollton 75006) often and had pretty good experience so far with their food and service. Something must have changed recently that gave us a very bad experience today, when we invited another family out for lunch. When our first group of four showed up first at 11:30am, we saw the sign on the counter and was told by the server that we had to wait until everyone in the group (7 in total) was physically present in the restaurant before seating could take place. We had no problem with the policy and were happy to oblige as we stood inside and waited for others to arrive. At 11:45am, two more people arrived, but the last one of the party could not leave early for the lunch break and asked to have his food ordered and served for him before he could leave work to join us. We nicely explained the situation to the server and explored whether we could be seated now. We were surprised we were refused. When we asked to speak to the manager, we found someone who was poorly trained and who was inept at handling a custom service situation like this. As a manager in a big restaurant with half the seats empty at 11:45am, he simply could not offer a solution for our group of six people to sit down, order food for seven people, eat our food while waiting the seventh people to join. Instead, the manager just repeated the policy and told us to go somewhere else if we could not abide by it. Well, we left without eating when the last person finally showed up and heard the story.
We were very disappointed with the manager, he could have handled the situation much better if he really cared about customer experience. We hope they will be able to improve this aspect of their customer service experience in the future, as we have overall quite enjoyed dining...
