He sat down at his usual spot in the corner of his living room sofa having retrieved his long-anticipated Uber delivery, looking forward to the end of a long day. The soft lighting and gentle murmur of puppies provided a comforting escape from the noise of his life. He reached down to pet his dogs before longingly gazing at the beverage nestled snugly beside his meal, his usual - a Route 44 Dr. Pepper with Vanilla flavoring.
"At last” he thought as he reached for the cup, eager to soon enjoy and savor the sweet 23-flavored, ecstasy-inducing concoction.
But first, he sighed, thinking about his troubles. His job was on the line due to recent cutbacks, his marriage was strained, and his health was showing the first signs of decline. The drink was meant to be a small comfort in an increasingly uncomfortable world.
When he felt the weight of the cup and its contents, instantly, he froze in disbelief. The glass was filled to the brim with ice, leaving barely any room for the actual drink despite frantically opening the Uber Eats app and confirming what he already knew to be true - his Uber receipt showed that he had clearly requested light ice as he had done hundreds of times in the past. His heart sank as he realized even this small respite was marred by disappointment.
"I asked for light ice," he thought, trying to keep his mind clear of the rage boiling up from within his chest.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," his wife interjected once she realized the look of sheer horror on his face, but he couldn’t hear a word over the sound of his one simple dream shattering before his very eyes.
He forced a smile. "It's okay, I'll manage."
He took a sip, the cold biting at his teeth. The Dr. Pepper was diluted, the vanilla flavoring almost non-existent. It was as if the drink mirrored his life—seemingly full, but hollow and unsatisfying upon closer inspection.
He swirled the styrofoam, the ice clinking together like the ticking of a clock, each sound reminding him of time slipping away. The delivery driver’s warmth couldn't reach the coldness he felt inside especially as she had already left him behind - just like all of the other delivery drivers he had come to know in his life. He thought about his wife, who had grown distant, and his children, who barely spoke to him anymore. His career, once promising, now seemed like a fading dream.
As he sat there, the ice slowly melted, diluting the drink further. He watched it, feeling an overwhelming sense of helplessness. The noises bouncing off of the walls of his home faded into the background, leaving him alone with his thoughts. He realized that the ice, much like his problems, was taking over, leaving less and less room for what he truly needed.
He finished the drink, the last sip tasting more of water than soda. He set the styrofoam down gently and stood up, leaving his wife and canines in the safety of the house. As he walked out into the night, the weight of his troubles pressed down on him, heavier than ever. The night air was cool, but it did nothing to alleviate the emptiness he felt.
He headed home hours after midnight, each step heavier than the last. The drink with too much ice had been a small thing, but it symbolized so much more—a life where even the smallest pleasures were tainted by overwhelming burdens.

terrible in-app order experience. first off, when I pulled up to the stall and ordered the promo deal for the BOGO foot long coney, the person who took my order definitely didn’t know what he was doing. I ordered the BOGO and he rang it up to the stall, only to tell me after the fact that I can only order the deal through the app and do pick up. huh?? why do you tell me that after you pull it up on the screen? it’s not like this BOGO started today, it’s been going on all of August. there’s no way I was your first order of the month. there’s no way you didn’t notice your co-workers taking this order before instructing the customer to order through the app. should’ve been known is all I’m saying.
I did not mind downloading the app and signing up. so that’s what I did. but add to the inconvenience, when I ordered the BOGO and side of tots, it gave me an estimate of when they’ll deliver it to me. well they were 13 minutes late. my baby was screaming crying in the car so I pressed the button again to ask for the ETA, only to be connected to a different person who didn’t know what they were doing. they said they can bring it out “right now” which makes me believe that it’s been ready all along and it was sitting there. I got my order shortly after I followed up. he also asked what stall I was at. which- I put on the app when I checked in to pick up my order, and also doesn’t it say what stall # you’re talking to when you take a call? not sure what’s going on back there but clearly there’s no coherent system or training when it comes to the app orders.
not going to boycott this place just yet, maybe I’ll drop the app and just order in person and see if the service is ok. but yeah could’ve and should’ve...
Read moreReally bad experience - please read - Its worth it: To start off with I ordered online using the Sonic app. This is a usual thing and I always order on the app. By the time I ordered I was already at sonic so I put my stall number in. Up to this point their were no issues but things changed as you can see with my 1 star rating. The first issue was the wait. I waited for about 20 to 25 minutes for 5 drinks. Now this Sonic was not busy. There were about 6 other cars there. And even on a busy day 20 minutes is ridiculous for a couple drinks. That was just the first issue. The second issue was the quality of the drinks. Out of 5 drinks only 1 was good. The other 4 were terrible. One of my drinks was a lemonade. It was awful.....so watery. I have never tasted a lemonade from Sonic that was so bad. Another drink I got for one of my family members was a slushy. It was already melted down before we even got the drink. And the other drinks I got for my family were just as bad. This was probably the worst Sonic experience I have ever had and I am truly disappointed. I paid $7 for absolute trash and I will never go back to this Sonic again. So if you are in this area and looking for some drinks I recommend you go to the local gas station because it would be a world of a difference.
OH.....and let's not forget to mention the FLY in my cup when I took the lid off. So Disgusting.
P.S. I hope that corporate reads this so they can fix...
