My first time at Duke's was a FABULOUS experience!! My girls and I from the office did a ladies' night out here and don't have a single negative thing to say.
Our waiter, Alex, was extremely friendly, knowledgeable about all of the menu items, and he also brought one of us a little cup of the bearnaise sauce to taste since one of the ladies in our group had never had it and wasn't sure she'd like it (she did). He went above and beyond and his tip reflected this.
The ambiance was perfect; it was dim lighting from glass chandeliers with comfortable quilted booths and chairs to sit in. The decor was minimal so as to not to be too loud and garish; there were brass-colored models of ships scattered throughout the dining room. The coolest thing I've seen at a restaurant was the menus they had; they were backlit so that they were extremely easy to read in the dim interior.
The food was AMAZING; for an appetizer I had the crabcake with lemon aioli and the mini beef wellington. The crabcake was delicious; if I had to make one recommendation for improvement, I'd recommend that they impart more flavor into the mini beef wellingtons. They were on the bland side as they did not have duxelles (or anything else) between the meat and pastry for flavoring. They were still tasty, just not as flavorful as I like my beef wellington to be. My main course (filet mignon Oscar Style) was one of the best I've ever had (pictured below with the yellow bearnaise sauce on top). They used Dungeness crab, (which is my favorite being from Oregon), and the asparagus was perfectly cooked al dente with a slight amount of crunch. The bearnaise sauce that covered it all was flavorful and tangy, and the mascarpone mashed potatoes melted in my mouth.
But the best part came at the end. We decided to go all out and order dessert (the coconut cake is spot on) and after dessert when Alex came by with the bill and a chocolate truffle for each person, he asked if we would each like to take several truffles home with us to go and proceeded to bring us a very generous amount of truffles per person to take home. We had the best time on our...
Read moreMy Mom loves this place and comes here on special occasions so it seemed like a great place to celebrate Mother’s Day with her, my sister and my daughter. I was disappointed that they changed the menu from what was available online vs what we were presented tonight, the menu had less options and was more expensive, it also only included 1 side and no soup/salad which I understand is usually included. There was also an upsell for a “prime” steak, if you’re charging what you charge just add the extra $8 and give us the prime cut of steak.
Our server Sean was more than disappointing, totally disengaged and just going through the motions. We ordered, I didn’t because I was frustrated with the markup of prices. I did end up ordering the shrimp cocktail, my Mom and sister ordered filets and my daughter ordered the ribeye. My shrimp were not deveined and actually exploded poop on my hands when taking the tail off of one. They did take that off the bill after seeing the stain on the table cloth. My Mom ordered a 6 oz filet medium, my sister the same and my sisters was overcooked and my Mom’s was bloody raw. My daughter’s ribeye had so much fat that 1/4 of it wasn’t edible. There were a few people such as Narinder who was serving us bread and cleaning up who were super kind and attentive but I will never go back. It was a $200 bill even after the shrimp taken off and another waiter named Alex who was great stepping in to try and resolve the issues. I’m just sincerely disappointed, I did all I could to hold back my frustration for the sake of having a nice evening and both the service and the food were bad. I hope this helps or makes you want to strive for a better experience for future customers as it...
Read moreI have to say first off, our bartender Dan and our server Victor were awesome!! The food was amazing too. The problem was the manager Betsy. My husband and 95 yr old grandfather arrived and thought I was already there. When they told Betsy they thought I was already seated she said “oh, she must have just sat herself, I don’t understand why people do that.” When they finally realized I wasn’t there yet, she asked if they wanted a booth or table. They asked for whatever was the lowest as it is hard for our grandfather to sit in higher seat. Her response was “they are all the same” in a nasty voice. They said ok, maybe wherever is the quieter area (grandpa doesn’t hear well) to which she responded “there are other customers here, I can’t do anything about that” also in a rude voice. Finally my husband just said “ok, surprise us” because he was annoyed and wanted to get away from her. When she came by to check on the tables I asked her what her name was. Suddenly she made a 180 and tried to be overly nice. I’ve been n customer service my whole life and I understand customers can be rude and it wears on us, but we were nothing but nice (having worked in customer service ourselves , we try to be extra nice wherever we go). I was really surprised someone at a high end restaurant would act like that. I don’t leave a lot of bad reviews, but I felt this one deserved it. Again, Dan and Victor were nothing...
