Taqueria Alonso in Carson City is a hidden gem that offers an authentic Mexican dining experience that truly stands out. From the moment you walk in, it’s clear that this place is all about serving high-quality, flavorful food with a genuine touch. Though it’s a small, unassuming spot—one of those true “hole in the wall” places—the food speaks for itself.

First and foremost, the ceviche is a must-try. It’s fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavors that balance the tang of lime with the sweetness of shrimp and fish. The level of seasoning is just right, making it a perfect appetizer or even a light meal on its own. The texture of the seafood is delicate yet satisfying, and it’s clear that the ingredients are top-notch.

The chicken tacos are another standout. Tender, well-seasoned chicken is served on soft, warm tortillas, and the flavors really pop with a combination of salsas and fresh toppings. It’s a simple dish, but when done right, like here, it’s hard to beat. The tacos are well-balanced, not greasy, and leave you feeling satisfied without the heaviness that some other spots can have.

For breakfast or brunch, the huevos rancheros is an absolute treat. The eggs are perfectly cooked, with a runny yolk that pairs beautifully with the rich, smoky tomato sauce. The corn tortillas are crisp on the edges and soft in the middle, providing the ideal base for the robust sauce and eggs. It’s hearty, comforting, and exactly what you want when craving a traditional Mexican breakfast.

As for the service, it’s warm and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. The staff makes you feel like part of the family, and they’re happy to explain the menu if you’re not familiar with any of the dishes. Despite the casual atmosphere, the service is prompt and courteous, making it easy to relax and enjoy your meal.

Overall, Taqueria Alonso is one of those places where authenticity meets quality. It’s a perfect spot for anyone craving genuine Mexican cuisine without the frills. Whether you’re in the mood for ceviche, tacos, or huevos rancheros, this place delivers in spades. Don’t let the humble exterior fool you—this taqueria is a must-visit in...

Don’t eat here!!! I’m all for hole in the wall places. B rating in health and safety isn’t horrible either. But if you a white hispanic who speaks Spanish, be prepared to be stereotyped on and be prejudiced upon. Immediately it’s, oh he speaks Spanish, but he’s white. No, I’m Cuban and Ecuadorian. Then while we wait for the food, guess they were all out of chicken all of sudden. Had us waiting, don’t say anything to us. They threw steak on it. Go back to complain, oh no chicken, sorry. Horrible!!!! Why not tell us from the beginning when we ordered it??? I would never come...

We stopped here on a whim while grabbing gas and were so pleasantly surprised with how delicious and cheap the food was! I believe the owner took care of us, and he was so sweet and accommodating. We ordered two street tacos to-go and they were ready in a couple of minutes with complimentary chips and salsa! In true street taco fashion, our two tacos turned in to four because of the authentic double wrapped tortillas. Everything about this places reminded me of my cherished taquerias back home in San Antonio. We plan to make a special trip down from Reno just for this spot...

What a great find
traditional and authentic Mexican food in a quaint little taqueria. Family owned and operated serving fantastic homemade burritos, tacos and entrees that are generous portions. We had the Burrito Bañado that was as big as your head. It was delicious
tried both pork and the beef. Also tried the Chile Relleño that perfectly cooked with a nice level of seasoning. Pro-tip: We went next door to the “Whiskey Tavern” and got margaritas “to-go” to enjoy with our lunch. If you find yourself in Carson City, this is worth the quick stop right off the highway.

We ordered quesabirria from this restaurant. It's next to a gas station and a hidden gem. Small and cozy. They give good salsa with their chips. Also the salsa they give with your meal is definitely worth checking out. Not much meat in the tacos. The meat was definitely good and seasoned. You also got 4 tacos. We will be back. Hoping it's better next time e!
