Taqueria Alonso in Carson City is a hidden gem that offers an authentic Mexican dining experience that truly stands out. From the moment you walk in, itâs clear that this place is all about serving high-quality, flavorful food with a genuine touch. Though itâs a small, unassuming spotâone of those true âhole in the wallâ placesâthe food speaks for itself.
First and foremost, the ceviche is a must-try. Itâs fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavors that balance the tang of lime with the sweetness of shrimp and fish. The level of seasoning is just right, making it a perfect appetizer or even a light meal on its own. The texture of the seafood is delicate yet satisfying, and itâs clear that the ingredients are top-notch.
The chicken tacos are another standout. Tender, well-seasoned chicken is served on soft, warm tortillas, and the flavors really pop with a combination of salsas and fresh toppings. Itâs a simple dish, but when done right, like here, itâs hard to beat. The tacos are well-balanced, not greasy, and leave you feeling satisfied without the heaviness that some other spots can have.
For breakfast or brunch, the huevos rancheros is an absolute treat. The eggs are perfectly cooked, with a runny yolk that pairs beautifully with the rich, smoky tomato sauce. The corn tortillas are crisp on the edges and soft in the middle, providing the ideal base for the robust sauce and eggs. Itâs hearty, comforting, and exactly what you want when craving a traditional Mexican breakfast.
As for the service, itâs warm and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. The staff makes you feel like part of the family, and theyâre happy to explain the menu if youâre not familiar with any of the dishes. Despite the casual atmosphere, the service is prompt and courteous, making it easy to relax and enjoy your meal.
Overall, Taqueria Alonso is one of those places where authenticity meets quality. Itâs a perfect spot for anyone craving genuine Mexican cuisine without the frills. Whether youâre in the mood for ceviche, tacos, or huevos rancheros, this place delivers in spades. Donât let the humble exterior fool youâthis taqueria is a must-visit in...

Then while we wait for the food, guess they were all out of chicken all of sudden. Had us waiting, donât say anything to us. They threw steak on it. Go back to complain, oh no chicken, sorry. Horrible!!!! Why not tell us from the beginning when we ordered it??? I would never come...
Read moreWe stopped here on a whim while grabbing gas and were so pleasantly surprised with how delicious and cheap the food was! I believe the owner took care of us, and he was so sweet and accommodating. We ordered two street tacos to-go and they were ready in a couple of minutes with complimentary chips and salsa! In true street taco fashion, our two tacos turned in to four because of the authentic double wrapped tortillas. Everything about this places reminded me of my cherished taquerias back home in San Antonio. We plan to make a special trip down from Reno just for this spot...
