We've just moved to the Cartersville area and this was our first attempt of checking out what restaurant scene has to offer. We were truly surprised and delighted! The City Cellar Loft is quaint little spot, just off of main street, in old downtown Cartersville, next to the railroad tracks. Don't let the railroad tracks deter you though, because when you walk in to the place, you literally, step down into the cellar! (I'm not certain where the loft is, I honestly forgot to ask.) The seating are is not large, so get there early if you want a private area. There aren't that many booths and tables are separated via board seperaters ( you'd have to see it to understand). There's two nice bench's to sit around the fireplace and enjoy cocktails, a good deal of seating around bar, where people have drinks and eat and several tables around the bar area are well that serve up to 4 people. There's also some seating outside in ideal weather. Now for the food! It was Excellent! For a local pub! It was more than I was expecting! We both ordered beer on tap....great! Fried green tomatoes for an appetizer served with horseradish sauce that was just mild enough that highlighted the tomatoes and didn't smother the taste! I ordered the Portobello and Fried Green Tomato Sandwich, but opted not to have the bun and extra tomatoes! Holy Cow! All flavors were dancing exploding! The melted feta cheese was incredible! The blasamic vinigar reduction drizzled across the top of Portobello and tomatoes was just amazing to say the least! I opted for my side to be sweet potato fries and I couldn't have chosen better. It's the first time I've ever ordered sweet potato fries and they were actually crunchy! The best sweet potatoes fries I've ever eaten! They were served with a little cup of some type of cinnamon sauce. It was very light and totally unexpected! Oh my goodness! I finished it with the fries because the meal was so good I had it for dessert! My husband's meal didn't disappoint him either, but I don't think it was quite as tantalizing as mine. He ordered the steak special with the loaded baked potato and salad. The salad was absolutely huge! So big in fact, he had trouble cutting it! It had huge chunks of blue cheese, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, Spanish onions, spring mix of lettuce and romaine, but the croutons were stale....that was a downer. His steak and potatoe came and he wasn't disappointed! He said they were both great! The steak was at least a good 2 inches thick and 12 oz. He ordered it medium rare and it was perfect. The potato was certainly loaded and was very good! Sidney was our waitress and she was awesome! The only reason I'm not giving this establishment a 5 and I'd give them 4.5 if I could, is because the croutons were stale and because when I ordered my second beer on tap, they were actually out of it on tap and substituted it with bottled beer in a mug. Come on now, I certainly know the difference and I didn't drink it. I don't like that certain beer when it's on tap....so a 4.5 it is. As far as the price of the meal; 1 appetizer we split, 4 beers and 2 dinners for $53 not including the tip! That's pretty darned...
Read moreI have been out of town for a few weeks, so I wanted to take out my fiancé on a date night. We headed south stopped in Cartersville to grab some dinner located this restaurant upon arriving. It looked really nice presentation of the entrance, down to the celler was nice that hemisphere look laid-back, relaxing, we got seated quickly with no reservations which was sent to a good start. We order an appetizer and two drinks. The appetizer came out first looked super delicious, and our drinks came out shortly after so that got us all excited about the food as it looked really good. The pork belly appetizer was delicious no denying that the wine my fiancé had was OK and my Oaxaca drink not so good, the drink was over powered by the dry fruit in it and they used a really cheap Mezcal not worth it. We weren’t offered any napkins. We have no silverware and we can obviously see the server at that restaurant was new because you can see he has experience, but looked lost! He had a hard time locating things within the restaurant, which I believe call him to be late and not serve as he should be. We didn’t get straws after we asked we had to ask a second time for them to bring the straws. He didn’t refill waters, not even after we asked him to And I think it’s because he was looking for the water jar, Not sure what the situation was but then he brought and refilled my cup of water and I order my second drink and I’m glad I ordered it on the rocks straight because I didn’t want to get ripped off on another drink. They use a lot of cheap liquor to make the drinks and super over price drinks. On my second drink I got a Woodford on the rocks double which I am OK to pay Woodford price because I know what Wilford is. We both picked our two entrées. I went with the recommendation and I made a mistake. The mashed potatoes had no flavor. The rib was dry super dry. I took two bites, and it was not cooked the way I requested to be cooked and my fiancé steak was super dry as well same request, She also only took a couple bites. To the extent that I told my waiter that I rather eat my appetizer than that. I also had to ask for the silverware again. All in all it went from a good start to a really disappointing finish that’s not on the waiter fault, he was doing the best. that’s on the management of the restaurant and the cooks. To add the macaroni and cheese look like it was in a bowl of soup of cheese. Needless to say I paid over $100 to eat appetizers. Here is the pictures and the presentation was nice the food not good!! I even felt bad for the waiter and still left him a tip because he was trying total cost of the night 200+ dinner date...
Read moreAte here a few days ago. I'm on the fence about this place. I'm a chef, so I tend to critique pretty hard. Great environment. It's literally in a cellar, and the low ceilings and bit of mustiness only add to the ambiance. The folks in a corner playing guitar were also rather entertaining. We were seated and greeted promptly. Our server was knowledgeable and fast, but not very personable. I ordered the honey bourbon pork chops and onion soup along with a beer, my girlfriend ordered the sirloin and a Caesar salad. Our soup/salad landed in great time. The salad was great. Crisp lettuce, just enough dressing, and good croutons. The onion soup, however, was way too salty. The cheese on top made it pretty apparent that it was either microwaved or not broiled enough. Our entrees came out very well timed. Our proteins were cooked perfectly. Rare for the sirloin, medium for the chop. Our scalloped potatoes weren't proper scalloped potatoes, more towards au gratin. But, that's nitpicking. They were good, and still had a great texture. My braised greens were again, way too salty. This led me to believe the soup and greens, both likely hot-held, aren't checked throughout the night for consistency. The honey-bourbon on my chop wasn't readily present, and I found myself searching for the flavors promised. But again, definite grill marks, and a perfect cook on both the chop and sirloin. Overall, I was not impressed. But, we did arrive an hour before close, which most folks in f&b know isn't the best idea. Nonetheless, quality food should not depend on time of arrival. While I found the experience lacking, I will be back to give it another go. I think my experience was the exception to...
