Bottles & Cans Beer and Wine Shop — Restaurant in Cary

I’ve always found the staff at Bottles and Cans to be cordial and pleasant during my visits, but my recent experience left me disappointed. I attempted to use gift cards that had been purchased under the store’s prior ownership, and I was told they would not be honored.

The explanation given was that the prior type of gift card could not be “tracked,” but from a customer’s perspective, that shouldn’t matter. If a business continues to operate under the same name, it carries with it the reputation, goodwill, and responsibility of that brand. Refusing to honor existing gift cards—no matter the technical excuse—is not an appropriate way to conduct business.

The message this sends to customers is clear: buying a gift card here is a risk, since ownership could change and leave you with worthless plastic. That’s not the kind of trust a local business should foster in its community.

I sincerely hope Bottles and Cans reconsiders how it handles these situations...

My husband and I love this place! We can literally walk to it from our townhome. Steve and Amy are laid-back and knowledgable business owners that make their guests feel like family. They have good deals and an impressive selection of DELICIOUS beer and wine. The drinks on tap get switched out regularly so it's nice to have the opportunity to sample unique flavors everytime we go. They have an industrial and rustic styled interior with a bar/lounge vibe. In addition to the drinks available at the bar, they also sell a wide variety of bottles and cans (hence their name) in house. I will upload my receipt soon but this place seems to add a tip to your card without the customer consent. The trick is in the "flip screen" as they check you out and then added themselves a tip and the only screen you see is the signature screen. This issue was occurring a year or 2 ago so maybe they have fired the employee who were committing credit card fraud. Maybe they're still up to their old tricks.
