This is the best pizza I have ever had. Let me qualify that by saying that I've had pizza all over NYC and in various regions of Italy, and this is the best.
I recommend going into the restaurant without expectations and a clear mind, free from what you think pizza "should be" -- don't expect typical generic American style pizza (Papa John's, etc.) or NYC style pizza. This pizza is a true Neapolitan (Napolitano) style of pizza, which you could only find at one other place in the Triangle (Pompieri Pizza in Durham). It has a thin crust, cooked to perfection (not too crispy and not soggy), and a bit of char from the wood-fired oven. It isn't choking in cheese so thick you can't taste the other ingredients. The cheese is one ingredient of several that work together to create a full flavor profile.
And oh, the flavors at V Pizza... swoon ...magnificent and well-balanced, playing like a perfect symphony across your palate. The quality of the ingredients is above and beyond anything you have likely experienced in a pizza shop. Not just fresh and superb quality, but clearly curated with love and commitment to a superlative pie. The star of the pizza here is the red sauce. Anyone who knows me would be absolutely shocked to hear me say that, because I am not a sauce person. Most places get too much or have a generic, boring base that does nothing to compliment the other ingredients, or worse, overwhelms them completely. Why is this sauce so special? San Marzano tomatoes, friends; there is no equal. Somehow, it creates the perfect base and exquisite compliment to the toppings. It doesn't overwhelm or underwhelm, but brings out the best in everything.
Beyond the pizza, they have a very extensive beer list, featuring the largest local and statewide selections I have seen in Cary. Personally, I very much appreciate their dedication to our local and state breweries. This puts money right back into our community and it matters.
The only thing that rivals the food is the service. These folks actually care about your experience as well as the food they prepare. A few weeks ago, my boyfriend and I ordered one of the spicier pizzas. I was going to try and tough it out, as he loves spicy food. Unfortunately, even though the flavors were absolutely amazing, it was just too much heat for me. I went up to order another pizza and they gave it to me for free. I was stunned. I had ordered the first pizza fully aware it could be too spicy and I may have to buy something else, and I told them I didn't mind paying for another pie, but they insisted. In this day and age when true customer service has gone the way of the dodo, it was extremely surprising (and refreshing).
Yes, the pizza here is a little pricey. Why? Because the ingredients are high quality and more expensive. You can truly taste the difference. It's the same concept as any other restaurant, from McDonald's to Ruth's Chris: you get what you pay for. :) The only recommendations I have to make this great place even better would be to offer boneless wings and somehow integrate the full bar menu with the walk up...
Read moreIf pizza were a superhero, V Pizza would be its cape-wearing, cheese-slinging alter ego. I mean, I walked in thinking I was just grabbing a slice, but I left with a full-blown love affair with this place!
First off, let’s talk about the pizza. If I could marry a pizza, it would be a V Pizza. They are all so fresh and flavorful, I half expect the pizza to serenade me at the table. The crust? A glorious masterpiece—crispy yet chewy, like a warm hug for your taste buds. And for my gluten-free friends, fear not! V Pizza has gluten-free options that are so good, you might start questioning your life choices. “Gluten who?” you’ll find yourself exclaiming with a mouthful of deliciousness.
Now let’s get to the drinks. Craft cocktails and craft brews that are brewed “in-house” at their sister restaurant, Flour & Barrel. I tried a craft beer that paired with my pizza like it was a match made in culinary heaven. I’m pretty sure the bartender is part wizard because he conjured up a drink that had me feeling like I was sitting on a cloud made of mozzarella. You can order at your table, the V Pizza bar, or head into the adjoining “Side Door” cocktail lounge.
One of the best parts about the Side Door is the vibe. It attracts a wonderfully diverse crowd, from pizza lovers to cocktail enthusiasts, and there’s always a buzz of laughter and conversation. You might even find yourself making new friends at the bar—after all, who can resist bonding over a shared love of pizza and cocktails?
The staff? Let’s just say they are as friendly as a golden retriever with a tennis ball. They practically rolled out the red carpet for me. I felt like royalty as they took my order, and I half expected them to present my pizza on a velvet pillow.
In conclusion, if you haven’t been to V Pizza yet, what are you doing with your life? Stop reading this review and go experience the pizza love affair you’ve been missing! Your taste buds will throw a parade in...
Read moreEveryone hyped this place up so we finally decided to try it and were absolutely disappointed. We will not be back. It doesn’t smell like pizza inside at all, which should be your first clue it won’t be good. The photos and menu would have you think they are about quality food and service, but that’s all a scam. Service was terrible. The sign said wait to be seated but then the waitress came up and told us to sit anywhere and acted like we were idiots for standing waiting at the sign. We ordered an Italian salad with Caesar dressing and the waitress told us we couldn’t do that because the Caesar dressing comes “pre-mixed in a kit with the Caesar salad”. This seemed absurd to me because the menu says choose any dressing and then lists Caesar as a dressing… she finally said she would “ask the kitchen” then came back and passive-aggressively threw an Italian salad in a to-go container with a side of Caesar dressing down on the table and walked away. What was the point of dining in if we’re going to be served food in to-go containers? anyway, on to the pizza. The edges of the pizza were burnt which is to be expected from wood fire places, but the center of the crust and the middle of the pizza were all raw. The whole middle was soggy and floppy. This indicates the pizza was put too close to the fire and not cooked long enough for it to be burnt on the edges and raw on the middle. For a place that emphasizes their wood fire ovens and cooking method, you’d think they wouldn’t make such rookie mistakes. The hype up fresh ingredients on their website and menu but the marinara was watery and tasteless and the waitress even admitted their salad comes from a pre-made kit. Other reviews talk about how attentive the staff is, but we did not have that experience at all. We waited for a long time after getting the food without anyone coming to our table and eventually just went up to the counter to ask for the check so we...
