Stopped in for the first time to see what they had. Biggest complaint would be the lack of pricing of any kind on the pastry cabinets, as well as any labels. Im still not sure what one of the items I purchased was, it just looked good.

One whole cabinet was large sugar cookies that were cut to shape and iced to look like footballs, butterflies, and other things. When I asked what it was, I was told everything in the cabinet was a sugar cookie, just decorated differently.

I purchased a few items, knowing only that one was a sugar cookie, one appeared to be a lemon bar, and that when I said 1 lemon bar they grabbed the item I asked for.. so I assumed my guess was right, and that the last item might or might not be a brownie. The total for the large cookie, lemon bar and brownie was about $8, which seemed high. I never got any breakdown of what the prices were.

The lemon bar was good, it was fresh and had good flavor and the brownie if thats what it was was a bit different, might have been coffee or cocoa based, but Im not really sure.

Overall the baked items were good, but the lack of pricing, labeling, and explanation as to what anything was or how it was made was a bit offsetting. Not sure if...

Hey there!

Wow, the place looked incredible – the desserts especially! My husband and I made the drive all the way from Bandera, TX on June 13th (around 6:16 pm) because we'd heard such amazing things about your pastries.

When we got there, though, we had a bit of a funny experience. The lady with the ponytail seemed a little…unapproachable? She didn't exactly give us a warm welcome. I was trying to figure out what kind of cookies you had, and I pointed to one, but she said it was a lemon cookie – even though that wasn't the one I was looking at! It felt like she wasn't really keen on helping us.

My husband ended up picking out a sweetbread, and before I could even finish looking at the other options, she was already ringing us up! I had to let her know I wasn't done ordering yet. My husband even asked if I wanted anything else, but honestly, after the initial interaction, I didn't feel like bothering her further. It just seemed like she wasn't very welcoming.

6/16 gave this place a 2nd shot well Melissa went above and beyond. Even bought a whole coffee cake. Thank you Melissa for putting on a smile and greeting us. Now that’s...

Very unimpressed with this bakery. I had read so many reviews and I was pretty excited to check it out. Just walking in I could tell the vibe was off. Idk of it's just temporarily but they were pretty low on inventory. The young lady that helped me...... maybe she's just too young or Idk but she was not pleasant at all. I asked for the price of a cinammon roll and she responded by saying she didn't know the price at the top of her head and just stared as if waiting for me to say it's okay. 🙃 Uhhh I didn't expect her to know at the top of her head but I did want to know how much I'd be spending.Once I had paid she was like "have a nice day" and didn't even bother pushing the goods to my side of the counter..... I really want to believe she was just having a bad day or something. Such an awkward experience. Well the prices are decent, I got a half dozen of cinnamon rolls for just under 10 bucks. So it was cool, I got over the attitude but then I came home to share with my family and turns out the cinammon rolls had raisins in them! 😩 No one liked...

Haby's Bakery is a "must stop" when driving through Castroville on U.S. 90. Because of changes in my personal schedule, I hadn't driven through Castroville in years. Driving west, Haby's is on the right side just past the new Walmart and just before a Shell gas station. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to stop until driving back to San Antonio at around 5:30 PM. Any good bakery will be low on it's inventory toward the end of the day, and Haby's is no exception. I especially like their variety of breads, but at 5:30 PM, most of the morning bread was gone. I had a choice of Oatmeal Bread and the more traditional Rye Bread. The store had plenty of cakes, pies and decorative cookies. I'm not trying to gain weight, but I wanted their macaroons; a bakery hostess indicated they were out of macaroons but suggested a similar soft pastry with coconut. I don't remember the name of the pastry, which wasn't on the receipt. My only criticism of Haby's is they need to upgrade the software of how they ring up transactions so people like me will remember what they bought!

This is the second time I have gone to Haby's for a morning pastry and have been disappointed. Haby's has always been my favorite stop on a road trip. In the past years, quality of pastries were top notch. I have not been happy with my purchases the past two visits. After the first time I said no more. But, I couldn't help myself. I should have listened to my head and not my heart. I was truly disappointed today with my burnt apple fritter. Haby's wouldn't it be better to tell customers you don't have any apple fritters right now rather than sell burnt and inedible fritters! Beware customers!
